This is a list of characters from the 2003 Disney/Pixar film Finding Nemo.

Main characters

Nemo

Nemo is the main protagonist. He is a clownfish and the sole survivor of a barracuda attack during the film's prologue, though a crack on his egg shell left him with a deformed right fin. It is him who gets kidnapped by scuba divers (one of which is actually a dentist from Sydney, Australia) and gets put into a fish tank along with many other fish. He later escapes the deadly fate of being given to Darla Sherman as a pet and being shaken to death. And finally gets reunited with his father. Voiced by Alexander Gould.

Marlin

Marlin is another clownfish and the father of Nemo. Like Nemo, he survived the barracuda attack at the start of the film, though the attack left its scars, leaving him with agoraphobia and overprotectiveness over his only son. After Nemo is kidnapped by divers, he ventures out into the open ocean to retrieve him, along with the ditsy but sunny Dory. Along the way, he sheds his overprotectiveness and at the end tells Nemo to "go and have an adventure". Voiced by Albert Brooks.

Dory

Dory is a regal blue tang and a companion to Marlin who helps him search for Nemo. She is ditsy and optimistic and friendly, but suffers from severe Anterograde amnesia (claiming that it "runs in her family"). After spotting the "Sydney Water Treatment" logo on a drain pipe, she presumaby overcomes her forgetfulness (until she refers to Nemo as "Elmo" at the end of the film). During the course of the film, she gets a jellyfish sting across her right gill.

Nemo's nicknames by Dory:

  • Chico
  • Fabio
  • Harpo
  • Elmo
  • Pesto

Tank Gang

Gill

Gill is a Moorish idol. He has a withdrawn and mysterious personality and is the last member of the Tank Gang to make an appearance. He is the leader of the Tank Gang and hosts the initiation ceremonies atop Mt Wannahockaloogie. It is him who gives Nemo the nickname "Sharkbait". His right fin is torn and has scars across his face as a result of landing on the dentist tools on his first escape attempt. Despite at first seeming snappy and harsh, Gill slowly warms up to Nemo and comes to be the one who cares about him the most. Voiced by Willem Dafoe.

Bloat

Bloat is a puffer fish with a very deep voice. He has the ability to inflate himself at will but does it accidentally too, most particularly when he argues with Gurgle about the name of the tool the dentist is using. He is voiced by Brad Garret.

Peach

Peach is a starfish who spends most of her time stuck onto the tank glass, watching the dentist and what he is doing. She is the Tank Gang's lookout. Her name could be a nod to her pink colour. During the epilogue when the gang members have finally escaped the tank and are rolling towards the harbour, she is the last to enter the sea and can be heard complaining, "That's the shortest red light I've ever seen!". Voiced by Alison Janney.

Bubbles

Bubbles is a yellow tang who is obsessed with bubbles and spends most of his time loitering around the treasure chest ornament in the tank, waiting for it to open and spew out bubbles. During the end credits, he can be seen swimming around manicly and chasing after some bubbles that shoot up to the surface. Bubbles is the first member of the Tank Gang to make an appearance. He is never referred to by name. Boiced by Stephen Root.

Deb/Flo

Deb is a four-striped humbug damselfish (often incorrectly thought to be a three-striped damselfish) and the only other female member of the Tank Gang after Peach. She talks in flowery language and cares deeply for Nemo. She confuses her reflection on the tank glass for her identical twin sister "Flo". "Deb and Flo" and a pun on "ebb and flow", the falling and rising of the tide on the beach. Voiced by Vicki Lewis.

Gurgle

Gurgle is a royal gramma who appears to suffer germophobia (as seen when he learns Nemo is from the ocean, after Nemo jams the tank filter, and when the tank if full of algae). He doesn't appear to get along very well with Bloat, since the two constantly argue (during the end credits Gill and Gurgle actually use Bloat as a beach ball after an argument between the two and he inflates). Voiced by Austin Pendleton.

Jacques

Jacques is a Pacific cleaner shrimp who is obsessed with hygeine and has a French accent. His two whiskers resemble a moustache. After the tank's filter is jammed and the tank becomes dirty and green, Jacques finds leaving it dirty to be extremely difficult. He is named after the famous ocean explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Voiced by Joe Ranft.

Minor characters

Coral

Coral is the wife of Marlin and the mother of Nemo as well as 399 deceased eggs. She makes a cameo appearance during the prologue of the film where she and Marlin discuss their excitement about their 400 eggs hatching until she is eaten by a barracuda along with 399 eggs. Voiced by Elizabeth Perkins.

Bruce

Bruce is a great white shark. He lives in a sunken submarine amongst a field of unexploded mines. When the scent of Dory's blood sends him into a feeding frenzy, he accidentally sends a torpedo into the mines, exploding them and accidentally causing the submarine to slide of the cliff and into an abyss. He doesn't appear again until the end of the film where Dory has become a member of their club.

Anchor

Anchor is a hammerhead shark and a member of Bruce's club trying to quit eating fish. His "fish friend" is a small, shivering, chattering, insecure blenny called Blenny.

Chum

Chum is a mako shark and Bruce's other friend and a member of the shark club trying to stop eating fish. His "fish friend" was actually eaten by him, leaving only his bones. His name may be a pun on shark food.

Humans

Phillip Sherman

Phillip Sherman is a dentist/scuba diver and the owner of the Tank Gang. After kidnapping Nemo, he actually thought Nemo was struggling and that he saved him. At the end of the film, he loses all his fish when they jam the Aquascum 2003 filter and roll out of the window.

Darla Sherman

An 8 year old schoolgirl and Dr Sherman's niece. She is notoriously known for getting a fish for her birthday as a pet every year but handling them so roughly they die after only one day in her posession. She somewhat of a ghastly appearance that greatly resembles Pixar's first ever villain, Sid Phillips from Toy Story.

Barbara

The receptionist at Dr Sherman's dental clinic.
