Revision as of 17:32, 13 May 2010

I previously used the username "This flag once was red"; I've changed username to "TFOWR" for brevity.

I like cats

File:Sabcat2.svg
I like cats...
This flag was red, once.

...because if you're going to do something, you might as well do it right the first time and not mess around with half-measures. Cats know this. This is why cats will inevitably overthrow humans. I keep a cat around so that I'll be looked on favourably by our new feline overlords when the inevitable feline revolution occurs.

Vanity stuff

What I intended to do

Create an article about Fred Evans, a victim of the Waihi miners' strike and Aotearoa's first labour martyr. But some rogue beat me to it...!

What I really do

Watchlist a whole range of articles - some of which I have some interest in! - looking for and reporting vandalism and sock-puppetry. Oh, and read stuff. I mean, that's the real point of an encyclopaedia, right? Somewhere above "writing" and a long way above "engaging in Wikidramah". (OK, I've posted on the dramah board and I'm not too proud to admit it).

Other vaguely useful information

In terms of systemic bias, I come from the Southern Hemisphere (though I currently live in the Northern Hemisphere). Apart from that I tick all the bias-boxes! Woohoo! 9.5 out of 10!

I don't tend to use userboxes (I have one on commons:User:This flag once was red where I consider it more useful) because I'm not convinced I could say anything useful with them. This reflects more on my complete lack of linguistic ability than any deep-rooted hatred of userboxes...

What should people call me?

Whatever they want. I've been called "...Flag", "The flag who is now green/orange/purple/whatever" and "Red Flag" (which seems odd, but I can live with that). This is my favourite. Ideally people wouldn't call me "Geraldine", but if you really must I suppose I can live with that, too. "TFOWR" seems like a logical choice, but as far as I know I've only been called that once. Which just goes to show that Wikipedia is a very illogical place, much like the rest of society.

Wait a minute... if you're some kind of anny-kist, shouldn't you be totally opposed to rules? What's with the reporting vandals and sock-puppets, hypocrite?

I think you're confusing chaos with anarchy. I have no problem with rules; it's rulers I have a problem with. Administrators elected by the community? Consensus rule by the community? What's not to like?

At this point it's probably worth mentioning that I leave my personal politics at the door when editing Wikipedia (and if I don't, slap me). This isn't always apparent - I've been lumped in with both Scottish Nationalists and Unionists when discussing Scotland - but honestly I do try to maintain a neutral point of view. For this reason I avoid those articles that I'd like to be editing... and edit articles that I have no strong view on. There's probably some kind of deep moral lesson in that, but I'm blowed if I can see it...
