Mehr

Mehr or Mihr or Meher (Middle Persian and New Persian (and Urdu: مهر; Sanskrit: मेहर/मिहिर/महर), meaning sun, love, friendship, affection, kindness, blessing or mercy, may refer to:

• Mers / Mair, Mihir, Mehr, Mehar is a Hindu warrior caste. This is a title largely used by the Arain tribe of Punjab.
• Mehr, an alternative name for Mithra, itself the Persian language equivalent of Indo-Iranian (Sanskrit and Avestan), meaning "covenant". This Zoroastrian divinity is from whom kindness and mercy is requested, and is also associated with the sun and friendship.
• Mehr, the seventh month of the year and the sixteenth day of the month of the Zoroastrian calendar, which are dedicated to the namesake divinity. This practice is also evident in the Iranian calendar, which derives its month names from the Zoroastrian ones.
• Mehr's day, or Mehregan, the Zoroastrian/Iranian festival celebrated in honor of Mehr/Mithra.
• Mehr, an Islamic-Iranian epithet of the sun during the month of Ramadan.
• "Meher", common form of appreciating god's blessing in the Punjabi community, as in "rab di meher".

• Several historical figures:
  • Mehrdad ("given by Mehr"), Greek Mithridates, the throne name of several kings.
  • Mihr-Mihroe, Greek Mermeroes, a general.
  • Mihran, name of a Parthian clan and an Armenian king.
  • Veh Mihr Shahpur, an Armenian king.
  • Mihr, a pen-name of the poet Anwari.

• A first name, for both males and females:
  • Meher Baba (Merwan Sheriar Irani), 7th Avatar, The GOD from Indian.
  • Mehr Jesia, an Indian supermodel.

• A surname or title:
  • Farhang Mehr, former deputy prime minister of Iran.

• Names of places or localities:
  • Mehrabad, a suburb of Tehran.
  • Mihr, an he Iranian village said to have once been the site of Adur Burzen-Mihr, one of the legendary Great Fires of Zoroastrianism.
  • Darb-e Mehr, Mithra's court, an alternate name for a Zoroastrian fire temple.
  • Mihr's foot, another name for the Pamir mountains. The sun is rising from Eastern Iranian territory from the highest part of Iran. Roof of Iran (Pamir). Yalda, Mordad.

• First Names. It is part of first name in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mehrbano as sun lady (also Mahbano; Mah means moon); Mehrnaz (also Mahnaz; Mah means moon); Mehrdad etc.

• Mehrnaz, is also a Persian name meaning "glory of the sun". See examples of usage below: as a simple answer to most anything someone can ask you.
