Plot

Megamind (Will Ferrel) is the most brilliant supervillain the world has ever known - but also the least successful. Over the years he has tried to take over Metro City in every imaginable way, but each attempt ends a failure thanks to the superhero known as "Metro Man", a popular super-powered celebrity who has outdone Megamind ever since their days in diapers. It seems that the pattern will never cease until Megamind apparently kills him with a solar-powered satellite during one of his many hostage plots. Now freed from his rival's shadow, Megamind proceeds to take control of Metro City, and at first, enjoys his sinister freedom. But after a while, he becomes unhappy with having no real purpose in life anymore without an enemy, and decides to appease his depression by turning a lonely cameraman named Hal (Jonah Hill)into Metro City's next big superhero, the firey headed Titan. Unfortunately, Titan decides to utilize his new power against humanity as revenge for the lifetime of rejection he has endured, forcing Megamind to do the inevitable: become the hero of the crisis. Aided by his childhood sidekick Minion (David Cross), Megamind now sets out to stop Titan's rampage of destruction. [2]

Cast

Production

The film was first titled Master Mind and then Oobermind.[3] Lara Breay and Denise Nolan Cascino will produce, and Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld will executive produce the film.[3] Ben Stiller was originally cast as Megamind, and later Robert Downey, Jr.,[4] but Will Ferrell was given the role, due to "scheduling conflicts" for Downey.[1] Brad Pitt is cast as Metro Man, Jonah Hill as Titan, and Tina Fey as star reporter Roxanne Ritchi.[1] The film is written by Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons.[5]

It was revealed [by whom?] that the idea for the film came the idea "What if Lex Luthor defeated Superman?" [citation needed]

Marketing

A 47-second teaser trailer of the film was released online on March 18, 2010 and then premiered in How to Train Your Dragon. A second trailer premiered on May 21, 2010 with Shrek Forever After and then in select screenings of Toy Story 3 and Despicable Me.
