World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD) is a festival started in England in 1982. The festival arose from Peter Gabriel's interest in sharing and celebrating world music, arts and dance. A typical festival will include live performances, workshops and events for children.
WOMAD has held festivals in over 20 countries, including Japan, United Kingdom, USA and many European countries.
WOMAD has pioneered for the exeption of world music into western society, and it is seeming to have an affect. The festival is now under competion from other festivals like Wychwood and the Big Chill.
