"4th of July"
Song

"4th of July (Fireworks)" is the second single from Kelis' fifth album, Flesh Tone. It contains a credited piano sample from "You're My Heart (Pilotpriest Remix)" by Lioness.

Promotion

Kelis performed the song for the first time on North American television on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on June 18th.[1] Kelis performed the song on The Today Show and 106 and Park.[2]

In the UK, Kelis performed the song on Later with Jools Holland[3], the Glastonbury Festival 2010 [4] and on July 4, 2010 she performed it on T4 on the Beach as well as Alan Carr: Chatty Man which aired that same night.[5]

Music video

The video was co-directed by Kelis, John "Rankin" Waddell and Nicole Ehrlich in the desert outside of Los Angeles. The video depicts Kelis as the four natural elements (Earth, wind, water and fire). The video debuted June 16th on Youtube and VEVO.[1][6]

Chart performance

"4th of July (Fireworks)" first debuted on the UK Dance Chart at number 39 on 28 May 2010 following the release of album: "Flesh Tone", before falling out of the Top 40. The single re-entered the chart at number 17 on 28 June 2010 before climbing to number 15 the following week. After climbing to number 128 on 28 June 2010, the single entered the Top 100 at number 82 on 4 July 2010, and then climbing to 32 on 11 July 2010.
