Rodrigo Lopresti (born September 6, 1976) is an American actor, musician and movie director who lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Biography
Personal life
Rodrigo Lopresti was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the youngest of two children. Lopresti grew up in Miami, Florida. He graduated Miami Beach Senior High in 1995. Lopresti became the singer and guitar player of a surf-punk band called Garlands Room[1] in 1994. The band released two "7-inch vinyl records and disbanded in 1999. Lopresti moved to New York to pursue an acting career. He worked briefly as a duck cook in Chinatown. He befriended actors Michael Pitt, whom he taught how to play guitar, Alexis Dziena, Ryan Donowho, Gray Madder, Francis Benhamou and Bennie Slay, who together made up the group of actors called The Eastsiders. Lopresti and Benhamou lived together at a Brooklyn apartment when Lopresti retrofitted a small closet space into a portable recording studio. He released an album two years later under the name The Hermitt. He played most of the instruments in the 2003 release entitled, "& The Story of the Insects." Lopresti along with Kevin Brady and Tyler Fenio founded Devious Semantics Films and record label. Lopresti is also a painter. The cover of The Hermitt CD is one of his original works. In 2009, he helped to create InViolet Repertory Theater Company, a collaboration between several actors, writers, directors, and producers.
Career
Lopresti got his start with a small role in the movie Dark Voices (2001), and since has appeared in several TV shows, Web Shorts and commercials including, McDonalds, Levi's, and Verizon Wireless. He's slated to appear in several movies, including Sundays in Fort Greene and The Imperialists Are Still Alive!. His band, The Hermitt and two songs he wrote were featured in the movie The Last Days (2005 film). Lopresti won a 2006 Best Short Film Award at the Charlotte Film Festival for the movie "Lucia"[2], which he directed and played the lead role[3]. He also directed and starred in "You're Gonna Feel Funny After," a short movie written by Noah Buschel[4] He's also had roles in Bringing Rain, Delirious and Neal Cassady. In 2003, he released The Hermitt's "& The Story of the Insects."
