Hisss (also known as Nagin: The Snake Woman) is a 2010 independent co-production between the United States and India,[2] directed by Jennifer Chambers Lynch.[3]. Bollywood Star Mallika Sherawat plays the lead role as Naagin.
Plot
The curse of the Cobra Goddess- anytime man desecrates or violates the cobra, they are doomed to suffer the petrifying curser of the snake woman, of death and infertility. Only respect and worship can keep the population safe and the women fertile.
Over 4000 years ago the inhabitants of the Indus Valley sculpted the image of the shape shifting snake. These half cobras, half human creatures were said to inhabit an awesome, mysterious temple, made of material unknown to mankind, deep within the jungles, far, far away in the legendary spice forests of the Malabar Coast. Children grew up hearing about the story recounted to their grandfathers, by their forefathers about an ancestor, who had journeyed to the edge of the world, and came back to recount a frightening story about the Snake Goddess and her mate... and from here the legend travelled across India, and the far east along the silk route - passed on from generation to generation for thousands of years until this day.
It is the year 2008, an American man, named George, packing high tech gear, and evil intentions, makes the arduous journey into the heart of the forbidden forest. He captures a male cobra the size of large python when he's at his weakest, while mating. Little does he realize when they embark on testing this mysterious creature in their high-tech lab, what horror and destruction awaits him [4]
Cast
- Mallika Sherawat as Nagin[5]
- Irrfan Khan[6]
- Jeff Doucette as George States[7]

Production
The film was shot simultaneously in English and Hindi.[9]. Famed special effects designer Robert Kurtzman was responsible for developing the look of the Snake Woman in the film.[10] The film was shot in the jungle of Kerala, India.[11] The film was also shot in Mumbai, Chennai, Madh Island, and in the studios of Filmistan.[12]
The film is edited by American film editor Tony Ciccone, who is also credited with additional sound design. His film editing credit is misrepresented on preliminary on-line posters as "Anthony Ciccone."[13]
Mooppan Raghavan, tribal leader of Thalikakal settlement in Kerala, and over a dozen members of his tribe were recruited as extras for the film.[14]
Soundtrack
Anu Malik was originally hired to compose music for the film[15] but recent posters of the film have credited Alexander von Bubenheim as the composer.[16][17] Mallika Sherawat makes her musical debut on the film's soundtrack alongside Julian Lennon.[18]
Release
At the Cannes Film Festival, Mallika Sherawat promoted the film by posing with a 22-foot-long (6.7 m) python on the red carpet.[19]. The film slated to release in India on October 22nd [20] in Hindi, Tamil, telugu, Malayaalam.
Premiere
The film will be premiered at the Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinéma on October 14[21] and will be played at the Gotham Screen Film Festival & Screenplay Contest in New York on October 15[22]
