Stamper, in collaboration with Pete Mantas, founded the annual Asbury Park Music Awards in 1993. The awards ceremony, modeled after the Grammy Awards, features the presentation of awards between performances of live, original music. The event was originally called "The Golden T-Bird Awards" and was first held in 1993 at a small club on Main Street called the T-Bird Cafe. The awards ceremony was later moved to The Saint, and finally moved to a larger venue, the Stone Pony, when the event's attendance exceeded The Saint's capacity. The Saint remains a co-sponsor of the event. [4] [2]

The Saint showcases a variety of new and well-known, local, national, and international acts that are touring through the region. The cover charge at The Saint is typically about $5–$12 to see 3-4 bands or individuals who play about 6-8 songs each, with very little time between acts. The club is more of a concert venue than a bar. Seeing acts perform at The Saint is like watching a series of recording auditions. The sound system is high quality (perhaps better than that of many of the studios recording the rising star acts). There is a four-way monitor mix that produces a CD-quality live performance. The nature of the acts and links to their websites are posted on the Saint's website [5] so that potential patrons can preview them. Some of the bands will also perform on 90.5 The Night, Brookdale Public Radio [6] before they play the Saint.

Eryn Shewell performs.

The Saint's capacity is 175 and its physical space is only about 14 feet by 75 feet, including a 14 foot x 14 foot stage. The decor is similar to that of other local clubs - the walls are littered with posters advertising now famous acts from when they played at the Saint. Some of the acts who have performed there include Airborne Toxic Event, Nicole Atkins, Rick Barry, Bif Naked, Tracy Bonham, Cake, Cannibal Corpse, Jen Chapin, Cowboy Mouth, Creed, Kimya Dawson, Deftones, The Duke Spirit, Everlast, Arlan Feiles, Robert Hazard, HelenaMaria, Hoobastank, Incubus, Jewel, Freedy Johnston, Joydrop, Lemonheads, Tony Levin, Toby Lightman, L.P., Matthew Good Band, Anne McCue, Shannon McNally, Moe, Allie Moss, Leonna Naess, Mieka Pauley, The Pierces, Joey Ramone, Maia Sharp, Kacie Sheik, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, April Smith, Chris Smithers, Eryn Shewell, String Cheese Incident, Stereophonics, Kasim Sultan, Tegan and Sarah, The Trashcan Sinatras, and Wussy. Age, attire, and nature of the audience varies with the bands, but is usually pretty eclectic.[3] The Saint is located at 601 Main Street just north of Cookman Avenue, in Asbury Park, NJ.
