Trollz is an American animated television series produced by DIC Entertainment and features the adventures of five fictional teenage girls, who call themselves the Best Friends for Life, who use magic to help them with their everyday life as well as battling whatever magical creatures and problems they may find themselves up against. These trollz were based on the troll doll created in the 1960s becoming one of the biggest fads in the world. During the 2006 - 2007 television season, the program was part of KOL Secret Slumber Party on CBS; the series was also part of KEWLopolis, through October 27, 2007. Reruns of the show currently air in syndication as part of the Cookie Jar Kids Network block.

Plot

Three thousand years ago, Trollz lived happily in the world of Trollzopolis. All Trollz performed magic as part of everyday life. It became commonly used for transportation, communication, as well as entertainment. However, that all changed one day when Simon, an evil gremlin, stole most of the magic from the Trollz and used it for his own evil agenda of trying to take over the world.

It was not until ten Trollz (five young apprentices and their mentors) rose up to form a unit which sealed Simon away forever using the Magic of the Ten, preventing the destruction of the world.

However, the damage Simon inflicted still lingered and most of the magic had left Trollzopolis. As a result, in order to stop another magic war, only female Trollz were still able to cast magic, with the help of special items known as spellbeads which they receive the day their gems begin to glow. The gems were made of amber, a magical substance. It is put on their bellybuttons at birth and when it hardens, they get their glow.

In the present day, Trollzopolis is an urban environment and the citizens rely on cars, Spell Phones, and other gadgets for use. One day, five young girls (Amethyst, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz, and Onyx) accidentally release Simon from his dimensional prison after they unwittingly use the Magic of the Five. Now, the five girls must find a way to banish Simon back to his prison and prevent him from taking over the present-day Trollzopolis.

Spell Phones

Spell Phones are devices based on a real life cellphones, but are adapted to provide functions for magic and spellbeads as well as provide the standard functions of a normal cellphone. "Spell Calls" are use to cast spells on other trollz across long distances. To initiate a Spell Call, the caller places a spell bead in the spell bead slot after inciting the incantation and then dialing the phone number of the intended recipient and hitting the cast button. The Spell Phone then transfers the spell through the phone line and when the recipient picks up the phone the spell is release through the receiver of the phone. It is a useful function that allows trollz to cast spells across long distances, but a lot of teenagers misuse the function and instead use it to play with penguinspranks.

Characters

The "Best Friends For Life"

Amethyst Van Der Troll: A pretty young Troll with very positive energy and a great outlook on life. She lives somewhere in the city with her mother, grandma and pet dog, Wa-Wa. Her gem is a pink heart, her Ancient is her grandmother, and her boyfriend is Coal. She is 14 years old and wears a 2 piece purple shirt and skirt and hot pink belt and flats with pink spell beads. Her hair is pink with a wave; she wears a heart-shaped purple hair clip. She is voiced by Britt McKillip.

Ruby Trollman: The self-proclaimed leader of the BFFL group, she is bossy, self-centered, but unafraid to speak her mind. She also has a habit of taking charge of the gang and usually focuses way too much on her looks. Although this can get her into her trouble, she will always back up her friends if things get bad and can easily realize her mistakes. Her gem is a red star, her Ancient is Obsidian, the owner of Obsidan's Spellz, a spell shop located in Trollzopolis Mall, and her boyfriend is Rock. She is 14. She hates getting beaten at magic by people and can come out as impatient. Her outfit is a white top with green star in the corner, with blue jeans and sneakers. Her hair is spiky in a star-shape. She is voiced by Chiara Zanni.

Sapphire Trollzawa: An intelligent girl who loves studying. She is talented when it comes to handling math or chemistry, but is hopeless at launand red dry. Her Ancient is Mr. Trollheimer. Her gem is blue and shaped like a flower. She is in a relationship with Alabaster. She is a nerdy, popular girl with a passion for school work. She tries to talk her friends into social studies sleepover night but they always turn her down for shopping. She is 14 years old. Her hair is blue and always put up in a pony tail. She is voiced by Alexandra Carter.

Topaz Trollhopper: A sweet Troll who tends to go off into her own world but her guideless reactions can often prove useful in times of trouble. She loves fashion and shopping. Her gem is yellow and is shaped like a diamond. Her Ancient is Zirconia. She used be scared of Zirconia but she learned to accept her. She likes Jasper. Her hair is yellow with a green scrunchie. She is 14 years old. She is voiced by Leah Juel.

Onyx Von Trollenberg: The most level-headed girl, Onyx is not afraid to tell the truth and has a distaste for people who lie and manipulate others. She is very anti-social and unique as she dresses in Goth-styled clothing with a gloomy outlook on life. Although she is good at poetry, she is the worst driver in the Troll world and often has low self-confidence. She wears a black inner shirt, a white and pink shirt and a skirt. Her gem is blackish-purple and is shaped like a cresent moon. Her Ancient is Spinell. She loves Flint. Her hair is curly and dark purple in 2 giant pigtails. She is 14 years old. She is voiced by Anna Van Hooft.

The Boys

Coal Trollwell: Boyfriend to Amethyst Van Der Troll. He is a very clumsy Troll often getting into trouble. He is voiced by Jesse Moss.

Rock Trollhammer: Boyfriend to Ruby Trollman. He is very dimwitted and forgetful. He is voiced by Matt Hill.

Jasper Trollhound: Boyfriend to Topaz Trollhopper. During the first episode, Amethyst cast a spell which cost Jasper his hair. However, Jasper has grown used to his new bald appearance.

Alabaster Trollington III: Boyfriend to Sapphire Trollzawa. Alabaster is also a multi-millionaire, whose father owns a lot of the companies in Trollzopolis. He is voiced by Samuel Vincent.

Flint Trollentino: Boyfriend to Onyx Von Trollenberg. He is in a rock band, and loves writing poetry.

The Villains

Simon

Simon the Gremlin is the main villain of the series and appears in numerous episodes throughout the show trying to take over the world of Trollzopolis and get revenge against the Best Friends For Life. He is voiced by Reece Thompson.

Snarf

A half-dog, half-ogre creature and Simon's loyal henchman who sticks by his side despite enduring endless abuse. Able to change from a cute-looking puppy to a hulking beast-like form at will. He is voiced by Janyse Jaud.

Rivals

Coral Trollarwise

Coral is the senior capitan of the cheerleaders. She is in constant rivalry with Ruby, usually for a cute boy's attention. Her gem is maroon. Her gem is shaped like an ace of spades.

Opal Trollangel

Opal seems to be Coral's main friend. She has tan skin and light-pink hair with a sky blue hair tie. Her gem is in the shape of a oval.

Jade Trollberger

Jade is Coral's second friend. She has spikey lime green hair. Her gem is in the shape of a thin diamond.

Ember Trollze

The hair stylist at the mall.

To make matters worse, Snarf, a demon that was awoken by the earthquake the girls caused finds them and follows them around getting them into all sorts of trouble. When the girls' spell gems begin to lose their glow from Simon draining it, they seek help from Ms. Tourmaline, a shady old lady who owns a spell shop. It turns out to be Snarf in disguise who plans to trick the girls into releasing his master, the evil gremlin Simon, from his ancient prison. Now the girls must find a way to escape from Simon and Snarf with their spell gems almost completely depleted.

Topaz has been stressed out and confused lately with all that has been going on, especially dealing with Simon, Snarf, and the Magic of the Five. Simon takes advantage of her weak state of mind and manages to possess her body, planning to use her to destroy the rest of the girls. A big semester test is coming up and the girls have been too busy dealing with Simon to study. They return to Obsidian for help and Obsidian gives them a list of ingredients for a magical potion that contains the exact spell that was used to banish Simon all those years ago. After completing the potion, Simon attacks them again at school, but will the potion be enough to stop him for good?

Sapphire meets Mica, a senior from school, while the girls are out riding on their skoots. Mica loves to race and soon Sapphire develops a crush on the big race star. Mica ends up dumping his old girlfriend for Sapphire and then asks her to help him customize his skoot to go faster so he can win a big race coming up. When the girls overhear Mica's girlfriend saying it was all a trick so they could use Sapphire to help Mica win the race, the girls must prove to Sapphire that Mica is only using her for her brain.

Mica vows to get revenge on the girls for causing him to lose his big race and make him look like a fool in front of the entire school. When Mica challenges Sapphire to a race around town, Onyx accepts his challenge instead. Unfortunately, Onyx is far from the best driver in the world, and it does not look like she has a chance at beating him. It is up to the rest of the girls to help Onyx train for the big race in hopes that she can beat Mica.

When the school finds out about the illegal race Mica and the girls participated in, they are all sentenced to do community service as punishment. The girls work in a retirement home for old trolls under the watch of Mr. Trollebite and manage to do so good a job they are let off punishment early. Mica becomes jealous and hatches a plan to get the girls to help him find Gobby, a toy Mr. Trollebite lost in the Haunted Woodz as a child so he can return it in hopes of getting out of his punishment as well. However, the Haunted Woodz are a dangerous place that few trolls dare enter.

When Jasper, the boy Topaz likes, throws a party and doesn't invite her, she feels rejected. She sets off on trying to change herself to get Jasper to notice her. When that fails, she then decides to try to change him instead by casting a powerful spell in the Amber Cavez which accidentally changes Jasper into a play-by-the-rules geek. Now, Topaz must figure out a way to get Jasper to come with her back to the Amber Cavez by sundown so she can reverse the spell, or he will stay that way forever.

One day after practicing her dancing for Jasper's upcoming party, Sapphire purchases a necklace with a spirit inside the mirror on it. The spirit begins manipulating Sapphire into thinking she is too good for everyone and everyone she knew was jealous of her talents and beauty. The spirit then asks her to cast a powerful spell, which ends up opening a portal to the dimension where Simon and Snarf are trapped. Now, the rest of the girls must rescue Sapphire from Simon's clutches as well as find a way to prevent him from escaping back into Trollzopolis.

Ruby comes up with a strange set of rules that her and her friends must follow so that they can be a big hit at Jasper's Party. However, the rules conflict with what each of them really wants to do at the party - have fun and hang out with their friends. Meanwhile, Simon uses most of his magic to send Snarf into the real world from his prison and orders him to find a way to break up the BFFL's at the party by pitting them against one another, because once the girls stop being friends, the Magic of the Five will disappear along with the seal holding Simon in his prison. They release Simon and become friends again and they stop him. It turns out the book left in ruby's garden was left there by Simon.

On the day of the Trollzopolis Dayz Faire, Amethyst's grandmother offers to lend the girls some of her old renaissance clothing they can wear as costumes. While they look through the clothes, Ruby stumbles upon a strange ring and convinces Amethyst to let her borrow it to wear at the fair without asking her grandmother. The ring turns out to be a powerful artifact known as the Ring of the Ancients that contains unmeasurable amounts of magical power inside the gem, and Simon soon sets his sights on taking the ring to use for his own evil purposes.

Using the Ring of the Ancients, Simon turns Trollzopolis into how it was three-thousand years ago; a magical medieval kingdom, only with himself as the king. He captures the three Ancients and then builds a device to drain all the magic in Olde Dayz Trollzopolis and transfer it to himself. The Best Friends For Life must now find a way to sneak into Simon's castle and rescue the Ancients, stop the machine before it finishes draining the magic from the world, and find a way to turn Trollzopolis back to normal.

After practicing their magic with Obsidian, the girls comment on how Amethyst, Ruby, and Sapphire are extremely similar to their ancients, which causes Onyx and Topaz to become curious about who their ancients are. That night, Onyx has a strange dream about someone calling for help from the Haunted Woodz. Along with Topaz, she travels to the Haunted Woodz in order to search for who she believes is her ancient calling to her. What they find is a mysterious tree guarded by a ferocious dragon. The tree turns out to be an old woman under a curse and now Onyx and Topaz take it upon themselves in rescuing her from the dragon, believing she is Onyx's ancient.

The old woman who was imprisoned as a tree in the Haunted Woodz turns out to be Zirconia, an old troll who fought Simon thousands of years ago before he turned her into a tree. She is also Topaz's ancient, much to Onyx's disappointment. Onyx then returns to the Haunted Woodz alone to continue looking for her ancient, but runs into the fire-breathing dragon again, who turns out to be working for Simon. Simon then plans to turn her into a tree like he did Zirconia, but with some unexpected help from the dragon she is able to escape. Onyx then realizes that there might be more to this dragon than meets the eye...

Mr. Trollheimer's class takes a field trip to a museum to learn about the history of the Trollz and all the various events that happened in Trollzopolis' past. On their way back, Rock gets into an argument with Ruby about girls being the only ones able to cast magic. During the fight, they both accidentally cause the bus to break down in the middle of the Haunted Woodz. To make matters worse, nighttime arrives and vicious ghost dogs appear and attack the kids. Now, all the Trollz must work together and utilize both the girl's magic and the boy's skills to fix the bus and escape the ghost dogs before they are all eaten.

Still jealous of the girls being able to use magic while the boys can't, Rock and the guys sneak into the Amber Cavez in order to take some of the magic amber for themselves. While navigating through the caves, Simon follows them to the Chamber of Amber in order to steal all of the magic for himself. Simon sets a trap to lure the girls to the cave but is defeated and during the struggle Rock knocks over the Alter of Ceremonies. Upon returning to town, they discover that everything that runs on magic has died, and that by destroying the alter, they have accidentally destroyed magic for all of Trollzopolis.

The girls and boys seek Obsidian's advice on what to do to bring magic back to the world of Trollzopolis. They are shocked to discover that unless they replace the broken Alter of Ceremonies with a new one, all the ancients, including herself, with die before sunrise. All ten Trollz venture into the Haunted Woodz in order to find a new tree to cut down and become the new alter. However, a monstrous cyclops is guarding the tree they need and it will take all the Trollz to put aside their differences and work together in order to make it back with the new alter before dawn.

Spring break arrives and the Best Friends For Life decide to visit Zirconia and Spinell in their new home on the Island of Trollhiti, where they're resting and slowly regaining their drained powers. However, Topaz begins to brag about where she's going in order to impress people, especially all the cute boys. This causes Simon to become aware of Zirconia and Spinell's location. When Simon attacks them in their home and Topaz is the only one who knows, she'll have to find a way to convince the other girls she's not just bragging again so they can help the two ancients before it's too late.

The girls find out that their battle with Simon awoke all the ancient magic on Trollhiti, causing monsters to appear and attack everyone. The only way to seal the magic away again is to read a magic incantation written on a magic tablet hidden somewhere on the island. When blamed for not helping her friends when a sea monster attacked, Sapphire decides to go search for the tablet by herself to prove to her friends she's not scared. She meets Sandstone, a lost ogre who doesn't know how to read, and the two of them must learn to overcome their fears in order to find the tablet and return the island back to normal.

On their last day at Trollhiti, Spinell makes the girls practice the hula so they perform in the upcoming Farewell Luau. However, all the girls really want to do is head to the beach after being cooped up indoors all week. When a fight breaks out amongst the girls, a nearby volcano becomes active and threatens to erupt. Spinell tells the girls that the volcano is magically linked to their fighting and unless they get along and work together to stop the volcano, it will erupt and take out the entire island of Trollhiti. The girls go to the volcano & still argue, therefore making Amethyst fall in. Ruby casts a spell on her hair to make it extra long to save Amethyst's life.
