Please do not use {{Infobox television film}} directly. See the documentation for available templates. iGo to Japan, also titled as Konnichiwa Carly in Canada[citation needed], is a 2008 Nickelodeon film that premiered on November 14, 2008 on Nickelodeon. It is the first TV film of iCarly, followed by iDate a Bad Boy.

Plot

The team (Miranda Cosgrove, Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Kress), along with Spencer (Jerry Trainor) and Mrs. Benson (Mary Scheer), go to Japan when iCarly is nominated for the iWeb Awards. Carly and Sam record a rather straightforward production together lasting less than 30 seconds, not what they typically record during webshows. The nomination was to have been all-expense paid, however, airplane tickets were only issued to Carly, Sam, and Freddie, which Mrs. Benson did not approve of. As a result of lacking plane tickets for Mrs. Benson, Spencer finds an alternative mode of transportation. They elected to ride an unsanitary, dangerous freighter aircraft driven by Socko's (Spencer's best friend) friend named Freightdog (Don Stark), what Socko claims to be his best mode of transportation. The plane is filled with opossi bound for Korea and the group must skydive from the airplane so that they arrive in Japan. Eventually, they manage to find the hotel where the iWeb Awards made their reservations, with help from an officer (where Sam takes his handcuffs which is assaulting a police officer). While everyone is resting up from the plane ride, Kyoko and Yuki (Ally Matsumura and Harry Shum, Jr.), the stars of a competing webshow, visit them. Kyoko and Yuki give Spencer and Mrs. Benson free passes to a spa to get seaweed massages, and decide to take the kids shopping.

As generous as their gestures seem, Kyoko and Yuki have their minds set on sabotaging iCarly's chances of winning the iWeb Awards. Kyoko and Yuki drive in a straight line for five continuous hours arguing in Japanese whether or not they made the correct turn, eventually stop, then trick Carly, Sam and Freddie to the middle of nowhere leaving them behind, while Spencer and Mrs. Benson are trapped in large seaweed wrap at the spa. Spencer and Mrs. Benson manage to get out of the seaweed by Spencer eating his way out. He accidentally exposes his nudity to Mrs. Benson who is surprised and has to cover himself up with a towel and tells her not to look, she does the same. Mrs. Benson uses a GPS device to track Freddie as well as Carly and Sam, who are walking together. Although they are eventually able to overcome their situations and get to the iWeb Awards, they can't get in because the security guards don't speak English. Mrs. Benson distracts the guards so that they can get in, until the security guards soon find them again.

The guards keep them in their office, and Carly and Sam try to communicate with them. They attempt to act out what happened to them during their trip with comedic effect, and Freddie videotapes them, plugging his camcorder into the iWeb Award screen. Although this production is not what Carly and Sam originally recorded to present at the awards, the managers soon get to them and decided that they win the award for best comedy. Kyoko and Yuki are arrested for kidnapping, and Carly, Sam, Freddie, Spencer, and Mrs. Benson return to Seattle on what appears to be a fishing boat, also driven by Socko.

Trivia

  • Look fast for a photograph of series writer-producer Dan Schneider, as his Head of the Class TV character Dennis, on the message held up by one of the non-English-speaking studio guards.
  • The iWeb award trophy can be seen in the iCarly studio in subsequent episodes, such as iChristmas and iBelieve in Bigfoot.

Cast

Production

iGo to Japan was entirely shot on a sound stage in Los Angeles.[citation needed] Miranda stated in an interview, "It was fun pretending to sky dive. I told all my friends I really did it, but really I only got to jump a few feet."

Although promoted as a movie, the film nonetheless retains the laugh track, the usual opening, and closing credits of the TV series, and was released to DVD in Region 1 as a regular (albeit extended) episode.

Early viewing

The movie was made available to watch on Nickelodeon On Demand for Comcast customers in October, a month before the expected premiere on Nickelodeon.[citation needed]
