Libra Group is a privately owned conglomerate operating across four continents.[1] The group’s subsidiaries span a range of industries including shipping, aviation, real estate, construction, energy and hospitality.[2]

History

Libra Group was founded in 2003 and comprises the diversified business interests of the Logothetis family, who had focused exclusively on shipping for the previous 30 years.[3][4][5]

Industry Sectors

Libra Group owns subsidiaries across a number of sectors internationally[6], including:

Shipping

For over 30 years, the Logothetis family has been involved in every aspect of the shipping industry from ownership to commercial and technical management.[7] Lomar Shipping, the Libra Group’s global ship owning and management group, owns a large mixed fleet of vessels including container ships, bulk carriers, offshore vessels, LPG’s and chemical tankers.[8] Between 2004 and 2006 Lomar sold 67 vessels before acquiring Allocean Group and its fleet of 26 modern ships in December 2009 for a total of $325million. An additional 10 ships were purchased in 2010.[9]

Aviation

Lease Corporation International (LCI), the aircraft leasing company, was created soon after the Libra Group was formed.[10] In November 2007, LCI sold its entire fleet of aircraft for $1 billion to refresh the fleet and throughout its history, it has acquired nearly $5billion of aircraft.[11] LCI currently maintains a fleet of 35 wide and narrow-bodied aircraft which are leased to airlines such as Singapore Airlines, British Airways and Air France.[12]

Real Estate

The Libra Group’s real estate portfolio includes properties in London, Manhattan, Miami, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires and luxury apartments in Bangkok as well as a range of commercial buildings across Europe and Central America.[13] It is currently developing further properties globally, including a 3 million sq ft of commercial, residential and luxury hotel properties inSouth America.[14]

Hotels and Hospitality

The Libra Group owns and runs US Hotels, a collection of premium hotels, restaurants and marinas on the coast of Maine and in Vermont in the USA. It also created the Grace Hotels brand initially in the Greek Islands and now with a global presence.[15][16]

Energy

Libra Group’s Greek subsidiary EuroEnergy has built a network of grid-connected solar energy generating parks and is currently increasing its generating capacity by expanding its licence portfolio. It also invests in wind farms.

In the USA, Libra Group has entered the biofuels market with the acquisition of a company involved in the industrial-scale production of fuel pellets derived from a variety of renewable resources. [17]
