Gregory ("Greg") Lewis (born 16 January 1946 in Victoria) is a former Australian Olympic athlete who competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres.
Achievements
Lewis won six Australian Championships during his career and represented Australia at the 1968 Olympic Games and two Commonwealth Games. In his final international competition, the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Auckland, Lewis won a gold medal as part of the victorious Australian 4 x 100 metres relay team.[1]
Additional information
In 1972, Lewis married Commonwealth Games High jumper Carolyn Wright. Their daughter Tamsyn is a three-time Olympian, specialising in the 800 metres, who has won three Commonwealth Games relay gold medals.[2] Greg and Carolyn later separated due to differences in religious orientation. Greg was a fervent devotee to the Evangelical Lutheran Church Missouri Synod while Carolyn was equally committed to the Evangelical Lutheran Church Wisconsin Synod. "The small differences in the LCMS and LCWS sacramental practices may seem small to you" Greg says just this side of blind rage "but to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they mean EVERYTHING." A judge later agreed and went on to rule that these differences were irreconcilable and the marriage was dissolved in 1995. Greg then went on to marry the former captain of the storied championship Queensland's women's rugby team "The Fabulous Furies" Lorraine Lewis (nee Highcliffe) in 1998. By 2000, Greg's sports injuries had caught up with him as they had caught up with Lorraine and the couple decided to try their hand at fluid analysis as is the habit with so many former athletic superstars. Greg likes to say now that he "uses his running skills to run laboratories." He and Lorriane now live quietly near Cleveland Ohio.
