Wasting Light is the seventh studio album by American rock band Foo Fighters.[1] It is set to be released on April 12, 2011, and is the band's first album in almost four years. Although he has performed live with the band since 2006, Wasting Light is the first album to feature Pat Smear as an official member since 1997's The Colour and the Shape. The title is from their song 'Miss the Misery' where Dave mentions the title 'Wasting Light'.

Background

Recording of the album began on September 6, Labor Day with producer Butch Vig, who had previously produced the two new tracks for the band's Greatest Hits album.[2] The album was recorded in Dave Grohl's garage using only analog equipment. Vig said in an interview with MTV that the album was entirely analog until post-mastering.[3] Throughout the recording process the band's progress was documented by a film crew to be part of a career spanning documentary, due to be released in the same timeframe as the album itself. The band also posted some information and photos from the session via their twitter account.[4] Recording for the album was completed on January 3, 2011, with the group making the announcement via a twitter post that read "Ladies and gentlemen, we are officially done". The album was mixed by Alan Moulder[5] and mastered by Emily Lazar.[6]

On January 17, 2011, the band released a 30 second "teaser" of the song "Bridges Burning" from the new album via their website.[7] On February 1, the band released a second 30 second "teaser" on their website, as well as announced that the official release date of the new record would be April 12, 2011. The second teaser was Miss the Misery.[8] "Rope" is slated to be the first single, which is scheduled to be released on March 1, 2011.[9] On February 12, a music video was released for "White Limo".[9]
