"Where Them Girls At"
Song

"Where Them Girls At" is a song by French disc jockey David Guetta featuring American rapper Flo Rida and Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj.[3] It was released as a digital download on 2 May 2011 as the lead single from Guetta's upcoming fifth studio album.[4]

Background

In an interview with MTV News in March 2011, Guetta revealed he was debating between two tracks to release as the first single from his upcoming fifth studio album: a song with rappers Taio Cruz and Ludacris entitled "Little Bad Girl" and a track with Flo Rida and Minaj, then known as "Where Dem Girls At?".[5] Stolen from Guetta's files by accessing his studio's Wi-Fi connection, an unfinished a cappella version of the latter was subsequently remixed and falsely posted online.[6][7] This prompted his label to release the single earlier than initially desired and with no promotion. Guetta has reportedly hired an employee working for The Pentagon to identify the perpetrators.[6] Flo Rida's involvement on "Where Them Girls At" came following the success of his previous collaboration with Guetta: "Club Can't Handle Me" (2010). After initially desiring a solo vocal record, Minaj later agreed to join the project upon hearing the track.[5] A music video for the song, set to feature "a positive message", is planned to be filmed in Los Angeles, California in May 2011.[6] "Where Dem Girls At?" will impact US mainstream and rhythmic radio on May 17, 2011.[8][9]

Reception

Critical response

Lewis Corner from Digital Spy said "[the song] is a rambunctious mix of hard-hitting thuds and candy-coated synths over lyrics spouting the standard sexy laydee and partying clichés. Its centre, however, is a sweet 'n' gooey tongue-lashing from Minaj, who commands: 'Through the club all the girls in the back of me/ This ain't football why the f**k they tryna tackle me?', in her usual quick-witted, lickety-split manner."[1] He awarded the song three out of five stars.[1]

Commercial performance

"Where Them Girls At" saw a top ten debut in New Zealand and a top twenty debut in Ireland and the Netherlands.[10][11] In addition, the song debuted at number-one on both Belgian Ultratip charts.[12][13] On the UK Singles Chart, the song debuted at number three, giving Guetta his twelfth top twenty hit.[14] In the United States, the song debuted at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, selling over 160,000 digital downloads in less than one week and giving Guetta his third top 20 hit in the US.[15][16] The song debuted at number three in Canada, becoming the highest debuting song that week on the Canadian Hot 100.[17]
