Bluecanvas (one word), (also abbreviated as Bc), is a combination of an online artist community, an internationally distributed art magazine, and an online marketplace. The online community showcases all forms of user-made artwork (Photography, Architecture, Drawing, Illustration, Anime, Tattoo, Typography, Digital Art, Installation art, Murals, Street Art, Traditional Art, Mixed Media, etc).

Bluecanvas is comprised of three components: Online community, art magazine publication, and fine art print shop. Bluecanvas creates an avenue where artists from every genre, culture, style, and profession can come together and explore anything and everything the world of art can offer.

Origins

Bluecanvas was originally launched as an online artist community on March 16, 2008 by two brothers [1]Jimmy and [2]Justin Yun. Bluecanvas was loosely inspired by online social networking concepts like Myspace and and Facebook among others trending at the time. Justin Yun's background in art after graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California that ultimately initiated Jimmy Yun’s concept of creating a social network for artists- that further became manifested into a magazine and eventually led into an online ecommerce presence.

SECTION (aka Section Studios) was also created under the incorporation of Bluecanvas as a creative design/development studio which is ultimately representation of Justin Yun’s background. Currently, Bluecanvas is known as Bluecanvas.com, Bluecanvas Magazine, and SECTION. Few months after the incorporation of Bluecanvas, Scott Hitomi joins as a Managing Editor of Bluecanvas Magazine and a third partner.

[3]Cecil Kim joins as a fourth partner and Creative Director of Bluecanvas and Section Studios on August 8th, 2011 after 11 years of employment with SCE Santa Monica Studio where he was a Visual Development Lead and brought the God of War (video game) franchise and many other hit titles to the gaming world. He also taught at Otis College of Art and Design and Art Center College of Design in the entertainment design program and have taught at Gnomon School of Visual Effects. [4]In 2011, British Academy of Film and Television Arts awarded Cecil Kim and Sony Santa Monica Studio art department “Best Artistic Achievement” on God of War III.

Magazine

[7]Bluecanvas magazine is an international multi-genre quarterly publication Art magazine comprised of high quality and geographically far reaching community of artists on Social Networking site for artists. Bluecanvas publishs the nominated artists from their website who are nominated by community allowing to publish artists from all over the world with many hidden talents across genres.

Fine Art Print Shop

Bluecanvas Shop is a place to artists to sell and art enthusiasts to buy Fine art on different media such as prints, posters, giclée, canvas wraps, framed prints and iPhone skins.

Special Events

With a sponsorship of Scion (automobile) and collaboration with Otis College of Art and Design, Bluecanvas holds a quarterly event at [8]LA Art Walk where monthly showcase and celebration of the best galleries, artists, photography, restaurants, food trucks, bars and shops, and businesses are held in Downtown Los Angeles.

Bluecanvas Magazine Issue 9 featured the School of Visual Arts (SVA). Located in the heart of New York City- a world capital of art, design, and culture- SVA is widely recognized as one of the finest colleges of arts in the country for its innovative and experimental program philosophies and its unparalleled faculty of professional artists.

[10]Issue 8 Launch Event

Bluecanvas Magazine Issue 8 proudly featured Otis College of Art and Design, the Digital Media and the Communication Arts Departments. Otis' Digital Media department focuses on teaching students to learn to communicate and tell stories through art, motion, and design. The Communication Arts department prepares students creatively, intellectually, and technically to meet the rigors of a dynamically evolving array of design professions.
