Please post new messages at the bottom of my talk page. Please use headlines when starting new talk topics. I'm not infallible, if I've made a mistake in reverting one of your edits, don't hesitate to point it out to me. If you're here to insult me or otherwise vandalize this page, it'll just be reverted with my feelings left very much intact.

It may take me a while to respond to messages, I'm not as active as I once was.

Colombia's article improvements

As we all know, especially if you look at the few featured articles that exist on countries, Geography section comes immediately after the History section. I suggest we make that change.

Hello Falcon8765. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know however, regarding [[:{{{1}}}]], that tagging articles for speedy deletion moments after creation as lacking context (CSD A1), content (CSD A3) and articles created through the Article Wizard, is too fast. It's best to wait at least 10 - 15 minutes for more content to be added, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), pure vandalism (G3), and copyright violations (G12) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks.

Flashmob

Hi Falcon8765! Tried to edit the content in the "flashmob" page today but it kept getting deleted. Why is it that there is so much negative info on the page about this topic? Just trying to give the subject some positive light, but I guess I'm going about it the wrong way? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks, 74.93.165.42 (talk) 20:27, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Per the external link guidelines, youtube links are almost always avoided. Brings up too many issues. If you disagree, by all means start a discussion on the relevant talk page. Falcon8765 (TALK) 20:29, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Warlord Muhammad?

You... seem to have reverted as vandalism a change on the page for Caliphate from "Warlord Muhammad" to "Prophet Muhammad." While "Prophet Muhammad" might not be perfect, it's certainly less likely to offend than "Warlord Muhammad." It's certainly not vandalism. Twin Bird (talk) 16:57, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't revert it as vandalism or the edit summary would say "identified as vandalism". I thought it was breaking a template with the change, but I see I was incorrect. Falcon8765 (TALK) 17:19, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Carver Center for the Arts and Technology

Was trying to add myself as an alumni to Carver's page. I started there when the school was CVT, helped it transform to CST and then CCAT.

If you can put me back in, I'd appreciate it. Teacher was Chick West, Multi-media Communications.

Douglas Smith (1993 Graduate and Student Teacher in 1994), is an experienced graphic designer and works for a major marketing agency in Maryland overseeing advertising strategy, creative design and digital marketing. Douglas helped get Carver started by designing the original school logo which appeared on all marketing material and blue prints. During his time at Carver, he was the first recipient to receive the Maryland Distinguished Scholar scholarship for computer animation. Also, he won first place for Carver in the International Media Festival for Computer Animation and Video Production. During this time, Douglas attended two High Schools and received a diploma from Carver in 1993. In 1994, Douglas returned as a student teacher and taught Juniors and Seniors photography, graphic design, video production and computer animation. Today, Douglas produces marketing campaigns across all of North America and his creativity can be found in large market publications.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.63.137.237 (talkcontribs)

I reverted it because you aren't citing a reliable source for that info. Click the blue link for what a reliable source is considered. Falcon8765 (TALK) 21:05, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All Saints Catholic Newman Center ‎

I too am frustrated by my All Saints Catholic Newman Center page being tagged for speedy deletion. Much of the information I created, and the remainder is purely fact that we use in our Ministry materials. Please intag for speedy deletion. Thanks! davidjames911 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidjames911 (talkcontribs) 01:30, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I completely understand your frustration, but we can't use copyrighted materials in articles. If you own the material in question, check out Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for directions on how to make it acceptable for use. Falcon8765 (TALK) 01:33, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In the event of it's deletion and you go through the steps described above, you can contact the deleting admin and they can restore the material for you to work on. So don't worry about losing a big blob of work or anything. Falcon8765 (TALK) 01:34, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How do I submit this information? I see the link, but again, i am a new user. Help is appreciated! Sorry if I am posting in like 5 different locations...not sure where is best to have this conversation. Thanks! Davidjames911 (talk) 01:45, 19 October 2011 (UTC) Here is a link to the History section of our website. This is a more biographical story of the Newman Center, but verifies some of the facts used in my page. Furthermore, much of the page I started, I WROTE! Thanks! Davidjames911 (talk) 01:49, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The problem lies in that all the material on Wikipedia must comply with a specific creative commons license, so we have to go through a process for material that is copyrighted in order to use it. If you click here, it will describe exactly what you need to do. Falcon8765 (TALK) 01:49, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1. This is NOT copyrighted material. 2. I wrote much of it myself. How am I supposed to prove a copyright when I pasted it in from my Word Document? Davidjames911 (talk) 01:50, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as written on the linked page "One simple way to grant permission to copy material already on line is to put that permission explicitly on the site where that material is posted. This is commonly known as a "copyleft" notice. This notice must state that your site (or portions of your site) are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA) and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts) or that it is in the public domain. For text, a good statement of release might read: The text of this website [or page, if you are specifically releasing one section] is available for modification and reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License and the GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts)." As the material you are wanting to use is available in a pdf at [1], you could edit that to reflect the above. However, there are a few other policies and guidelines editors need to follow, so what I'd recommend is that we move the article to your user space (not technically an article) so you can work on it an ask for advice without the risk of it being deleted. Would you prefer that instead? Falcon8765 (TALK) 01:56, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The reason some of the wording that I am using on my page is available in that PDF is because I too wrote that one. If necessary, I can logon to that site and delete that file. Would that solve this issue? Davidjames911 (talk) 01:59, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately not. Without the steps I've outlined above, we can't use it for legal reasons. It sucks I know, but that's copyright law for ya. Falcon8765 (TALK) 02:01, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

userfied

I went ahead and moved it to User:Davidjames911/All Saints Catholic Newman Center so you can work on it. In order for it not to be deleted and be included as a true article, it must meet notability, neutrality, and other guidelines. It can all be a bit overwhelming for a new editor, but you can ask any question you'd like and search for answers at Help:Contents/Communication. Falcon8765 (TALK) 01:59, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I don't have lots of time to devote to this, so I would say to whoever the "powers that be," to delete the page in its entirety and go ahead and delete my account. This is truly dissappointing. I understand copyrights, etc. But I sent my word document over to the permissions email address and posted the OCRS in progress thingy at the bottom of the discussions page. I am NOT going to devote a lot of time to this. Thank you anyways for your help. Davidjames911 (talk) 02:04, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry. I'm not a huge fan of intellectual property laws in general, but it is what it is. If you ever have time in the future, check out Wikipedia:Your_first_article and give it another go. Falcon8765 (TALK) 02:06, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How long will the redirect stay there when people search for the All Saints Catholic Newman Center? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidjames911 (talkcontribs) 02:09, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The redirect won't remain, but I'll leave the article on at User:Davidjames911/All Saints Catholic Newman Center. Falcon8765 (TALK) 02:12, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible for me to simply copy and paste from our asucatholic.org website and use that as the source? Thoughts??? Davidjames911 (talk) 02:13, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. It still doesn't address the copyright issue. There are the other problems with the text itself even without that. Wording and neutrality and formatting etc. Falcon8765 (TALK) 02:18, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Anyways, I need to get to bed. If you have any other questions, just check out [2] and someone there will help you shortly :). Thanks. Falcon8765 (TALK) 02:20, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FRUSTRATING. I sent my word doc over to permissions-en@wikipedia.org. That was what the instructions said. I don't know how any other church got on this site...seriously. Davidjames911 (talk) 02:22, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was very frustrated when I just started out editing too, so I completely understand. Just take things slowly, take a bit of time to read the articles I linked, ask questions if you have any, and you'll get the hang of it. You can work on your article a little bit at a time until it's ready and you can solicit the help of other editors as well. Falcon8765 (TALK) 02:29, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Ricky Rayner

 Falcon
I would just like to enquire as to why my page regarding Richard Rayner was deleted? As a close friend I feel I have an in-depth knowledge of his life and career

Because it was a blatant attack page, as well as the other issues linked on your talk page. Do not create another article like that. Falcon8765 (TALK) 22:28, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
