National Socialist Underground or NSU, (German: Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund) is a far-right German terror group which was uncovered in November 2011. The Bosphorus serial murders, a murder series of nine Turkish and Greek immigrants between 9 September 2000 and 6 April 2006, the murder of a policewoman and the 2004 Cologne bombing have been attributed to the NSU.[1] The Attorney General of Germany called the NSU a "right-wing extremist group", who have the purpose to "kill out of xenophobic and anti-state sentiments all citizens of foreign origin".[2]

On 4 November 2011, after a bank robbery in Eisenach, Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt were found shot dead in a mobile home, which was burning. Police say they set the vehicle on fire and committed suicide when their vehicle was found.[3] In that caravan, the handgun of murdered police woman Michèle Kiesewetter was found. The same day, their flat in Zwickau also was set on fire and an explosion occurred, Beate Zschäpe is suspected of having caused that.[4]

Police found a silenced CZ 83 which was used by the Bosphorus serial murders and a number of other guns in the remains of the house. Further, a DVD was found with images of three of the dead persons that had been taken immediately after the killings.[3]

On 13 November 2011, Holger G., a possible fourth member of the NSU was arrested and brought before a judge at Germany's Federal Court of Justice the following day, who ordered him to be detained in custody. The German Federal Prosecutor's Office wanted Holger G. detained on suspicion of membership in a terrorist group. However the court's investigating judge only authorized G. to be detained on suspicion of supporting a terrorist organization.[5] The Federal Public Prosecutor of Germany also supposed him to rent a motor caravan for the NSU, whitch they used for the murder of the police woman and her colleague, who was heavily injured, in Heilbronn. [6]

On 24. November 2011 the special police forces GSG 9 arrested Andre E. in Grabow. E. is supposed by the Federal Public Prosecutor to have been produced the claim of responsibility movie.[7]

The discovery of the crimes committed by the "Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund" terror group plunged Germany in a state of shock,[8] even if right winged terrorism has historical roots in Germany.[9] After the brutal crimes were known by the public, Chancellor Angela Merkel stated on 14 November 2011 that she wants to consider a ban of the National Democratic Party of Germany to weaken the power of extremist right-wing groups.[10] A ban of the NPD party in former times has been refused by the court because more than 130 police confidential informants infiltrated the party [11][12] (the party had 2010 only 6600 members [13]), e.g. worked the leader of the state association of the NPD party in Nordrhein-Westfalen, a german state, for 24 years with the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution together, so it was not clear, if the ideology of the party was infiltrated by the confidential informants. [14]

For additional confusion and uncertainty among the german people provides a report of the stern magazine, that two german confidential informants and two US-investigators were eye whitnesses of the murder of the police woman while their observation of two men who had contact to the "Sauerland"-group, an islamist terror group who planned assaults on US-institutions in Germany. One of the men deposited that day 2,3 Mio € in a bank in Heilbronn, then he drove to the place where the police women was shot. [15][16]

Prior to that it became acquainted that a officer of the hessian Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution was inside the internet cafe while the turkish owner was killed by the NSU terrorists 2006 in Kassel. [17][18] [19] [20][21]

Different german politicans urge now a parliamentary enquiry committee. [22]
