System-on-Chip engineering, S.L. (also known as SoC-e) offers custom electronic design services, consultancy and formation mainly focused in programmable logic and embedded systems. SoC-e also has three different business lines where own products can be found: Video, Industrial and Rugged.
Divisions
[edit]SoC-e is divided in four main product lines: Video, Industrial, Rugged and Custom.
Video product line focuses in video signal processing and mixing. Digital television modulation, image compression and coding, video and data multiplexing... FPGA, microprocessor or microcontroller based designs.
Industrial line is mainly dedicated to industrial communications. More precisely it is centered in synchronization and communication reliability. In this area SoC-e offers IP Cores which allow sub microsecond time synchronization in Xilinx FPGAs. It is a modular solution adaptable to any other project built on an FPGA.
Rugged line covers high computation and communication boards for harsh or critical environments. Processing, control and RF transmitting and receiving boards designed at SoC-e comply with VPX (VITA 46) standard which ensures reliable high performance communications.
History
[edit]The source of SoC-e is inside the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), more precisely in the Applied Electronics Research Team (APERT), part of the Electronics and Telecommunication department. From the relationship of this research team with many companies in the area arises the need of a group fully dedicated to electronic development. As this type of group has no place inside a university, SoC-e is born in 2010 as a spin-off driven by ten members of the Electronics and Telecommunication department. Of course, SoC-e maintains a strong link for R&D activities with APERT and with the University of the Basque Country.
Product Families
[edit]Video
[edit]SoC-e offers solutions for Digital Video Broadcasting and Real-Time video mixing using low-cost FPGA based systems. Product list:
- DVBTIQ: DVB-T Modulator IP Core — This core performs all necessary base-band processing steps required to modulate a single MPEG2-TS into complex IQ symbol pairs ready to be supplied to an external DAC. The core is fully compliant with ETSI EN 300 744 V1.5.1. and is designed to achieve high performance in low cost Xilinx FPGA devices such as Spartan family.
- VideoCube: Video Mixer IP Core — Videocube is a highly customizable video mixer. It mixes data coming from an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with data from a microprocessor LCD controller, and writes the resulting image into a TFT LCD.
- VideoCubeEB: Evaluation Board — This Spartan6 based evaluation hardware allows testing and evaluating VideoCube IP Core using two different video sources and an ARM CortexM3 processor. The result of mixing is presented in the included small TFT LCD panel.
Industrial
[edit]Industrial solutions cover FPGA based IP cores and products for system synchronization using PTP IEEE 1588 protocol and Reliable Ethernet (PRP and HSR).
- PreciseTimeBasic: IEEE 1588 PTP IP Core — PreciseTimeBasic is a IEEE 1588-2008 compliant clock synchronization IP core set. It is capable of accurately time stamping IEEE 1588 telegrams and providing a compatible timer. PreciseTimeBasic is a PLB (CoreConnect) compatible dual core solution to the IEEE 1588 timestamping and clock synchronizing. One core is in charge of maintaining the clock while as many implementations of the second core as needed are in charge of time stamping. This means that multiple Ethernet connections can share the same timer or have their own individual timer.
Rugged
[edit]These solutions are focused on applications that require high computation and communication capabilities running on critical environments. SoC-e products take advantage from VPX (VITA 46 and VITA 48.2 REDI) standard for ruggedized systems and offer solutions for Software-Defined Radio, Control and Communications.
- SafeVPX: Development Board for VPX Systems — In this board the key element is a Virtex-5 FPGA that embeds a hard PowerPC processor. This allows the implementation of embedded systems in combination with multiple FLASH memory options and on-the-fly CRC protected DDR2 memory.
- FMCSystemACE: Compact Flash FMC Board — FMCSystemACE is a VITA/ANSI 57.1 (FMC-LPC) full compliant expansion board. It enables the extension of FPGA boards with Xilinx System ACE solution. The board is provided with a Compact Flash (CF) card slot for the storage of data, software or bistreams, allowing the integration of all information needed for the digital system implemented in the main board.
Custom
[edit]Apart from the products described above, SoC-e offers custom design services. Although SoC-e's main expertise is in Programmable Logic, the Know-How covers any electronic design and application.
