Stipe Miocic (born August 19, 1982) is a American professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter of Croatian descent.[1] He is currently under contract with the UFC.

Background

Miocic trains out of Strong Style Fight Team in Ohio along with UFC veteran Forrest Petz and Bellator's Chris Lozano and Brian Rogers. He received interest from Major League Baseball teams during his collegiate years at Cleveland State University and ranked nationally in wrestling at 197 lbs alongside such names as Nik Fekete, Ryan Bader, and Muhammed Lawal.[2]

Stipe Miocic Played baseball his senior year at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn. Helped led team to the TranSouth Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championship. Hit .344 with 14 doubles, 4 triples, 7 home runs and 43 RBI Earned the TranSouth Player of the Week award.

As a former Golden Gloves champion and NCAA Division I wrestler, debuted on MMA winning his first 5 fights by knockout. He then fought for the NAAFS Heavyweight Championship where he defeated Bobby Brents by submission after delivering numerous strong leg kicks.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

On June 14, 2011, it was announced that Stipe had signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC.[3]

Miocic made his UFC debut against Joey Beltran on October 8, 2011 at UFC 136 and won the fight via unanimous decision.[4]

Miocic is expected to face Philip De Fries on February 15, 2012 at UFC on Fuel TV 1.[5]
