WBRU in the news

This section isn't really necessary since the information is already contained in the history section above. Also, the phrase "Their legacy continues" is needlessly POV and should be removed.--Inaxdaze 21:55, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please add a link on the WBRU wikipedia article linked to this Wikinews article: [1] regarding the April Fool's Day incident.

  • Note: I think this page should be cleaned up a bit.

yeah so today is the last day for WBRU becuase some other people are buying it. im bumbed. i just hope that itsthe same music. most likely not though. I bet the new station's gonna play rap and hip hop like they do on Sundays [or did...:( ] this is so sad. theres just like 2 minutes left and its over. after 36 years. now what??? what about the people that work there?! they just found out yesterday. and everyone sounds depressed. and its making me depressed too!!! theres basically no other radio station in MA that i can listen to now!! does anyone know any other than 107.3? or maybe some other one from states within New Englad, awww no!! its over! and hes just gonna play 2 more songs. this is fucking depressing.

"its the end of the world [as we know it]" by REM and... "Time of your life" by Green Day are the last songs.

:( catie

I really don't think this is an April Fools Joke...many of the DJs were on the verge of crying. BRU fans must be steaming over this Buddy FM crap, I'm listening to it now and can't believe it's come to Ace of Base.

I KNOW!!! what the hell??? buddy fm my ASS. WBRU was so much better. and i feel so bad for the DJs. catie

Buddy FM is the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Not a chance this is real. It would be all over the news. look at google news, not even 1 hit

I had searched through that last night & today, wondering why there was nothing, but think: They were apparently told YESTERDAY they had one day to book out, so it's still early. Also, they wouldn't pull a stunt like this... they wouldn't hurt all these fans, and what I was hearing out of these DJs was true emotion. Did you hear the last time they recited the call sign? Also, the BRU site is dead... I'm not denying this could be a prank, but it really seems unlikely. ~Nite

Edit: Oh wow...Maybe this is a prank...One of the promos was just "The only RI radio station named after a corrupt official" ~Nite

new section added on

I would suggest that a new section be added that can specifically cover all of the april fools joke. THis can be added to by people and critiqued here. just a suggestion. Does any one agree??

btw does anyone listen to 360 on sudays...I know I don't becuase I hate it...just wondering bacuase its one of my pet peeeves about bru...my only pet peeve actually

i mainly listen to midnight madness (sundays midnight to 2am -- well, technically on monday). despite only being on for one day out of 7, 360 gets very good ratings - Eminence32 00:45, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reasons I think this can't be real

-Too near April 1 -Why would any company buy a popular frequency just to change the genre and lose the popularity? -The Buddy FM name seems contrived to piss people off -There's no Buddy FM site -The genre doesn't seem consistent. It seems to be flipping through different songs that would just sadden people. -Announcements like "Yeah you wanna be friends with Buddy--Buddy FM" - seems designed to piss people off -Radio stations pull sick pranks all the time. Never seen anything like this from BRU, though. :/

Appearently, there are people outside with firehoses spraying the many "people" the BRU station, if there are, wouldn't there be police, something on the news, or an update about it already????????????????

Edit--There's no reason wbru.com and the station had to fade off the air and offline at the exact same time, except for dramatic affect. It's being marketed as a station for the whole family, while playing rap songs.

Meh, that's all I've got.

  • Although, if you want to get in to conspiracy mode, the BRU FCC licence does expire on April 1, 2006 - [2]. --Inaxdaze 23:41, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Holy Crap

http://yes.com/lookup.php?s=WBRU

Buddy FM songs are showing up in BRU's playlist? Coincidence? :O!

Ooh, good find. They're also continuing to play the BRU commercials... ~Nite

Hahah

Those sick freaks. Completely a joke. You hear that last commercial? =D

Owwwww, these guys SUCK! Totally got me. Now... when're they going to start playing actual good music again? They're adding insult to injury with some of this stuff ;) ~Nite

I dont care, BRU sucked after the 90's. It turned to nothing but sissy emo crap. FNX was the only real rock station aside from dinosaur 94 (AKA WHJY)
And further more, EVERYONE's license expires April 1, 2006... ---Matt

They're doing "Join the BRU crew at the alt vault" commercials...It's a definite prank... ~Nite

They're playing Britney Spears...this is just torture now!

This is SUCH an April Fool's joke! And I must say, it's quite brilliant. Like another person said, not one hit on google news about WBRU being bought out or changed. No mention of it in the Providence Journal, nothing.

Great joke, guys! --TornVictor

People, you are incredibly pathetic. 90% of what they have been playing hasn't been that bad. I know you all want your "New" Rock, but have some respect for some decent music. BRU will be back tomorow and you can all go back to listening to the crappy stories they come up with about various artists. Besides, why would a station go off the air at 5:00PM? If they got bought out, the owners would be milking what they new was a successfull station for the last 7 hours olf its existance. - Mister Niz.

Folks -- this is a complete prank. Take a look at this LJ entry: http://coffeeaddict12.livejournal.com/87057.html It was good while it lasted. Good joke guys. The "Original Alt Rock" needs to go back to just what it is: Alt Rock. Can't wait for it to go back to its old format.

When I was living in Mobile, Alabama, in 1998, a decent alternative station was bought out. In revenge, on the last day, they advertised "All Macarena All Day" (which was utterly horrible, utterly annoying, and absolutely hysterical) and followed through on it. Wonder if this was WBRU's way of ending things before the new owners. (S. Koterbay)

This is what their site said earlier today: THANK YOU We'd like to thank all of our dedicated listeners over the last 36 years. We could not have done it without you. Noon. Keep rockin'! So that pretty much says it all. They'll be back up at noon.

Repeating Information

Please do not add information before reading the article. I have seen many instances of repeated information and it is superfluous and quite frankly annoying. Also, please don't use this article as a bulletin board.

Stop Asking Questions

Seriously. The article is not the place. Discussion is.

I agree whole heartedly. And Dear god they played that horrendous song is not appropriate for the article. Also, the article is not a playlist. Unless the song is of significance or possibly if it was the last or first song of the broadcast (first of Buddy FM or last of WBRU etc) it doesn't fit.

SUPERFLUOUS!

Comments are not encyclopedia material. Also, this is not a bulletin board or a forum.

Also, there is no need to add ANY information about the WBRU.com website being UP or DOWN. Only information about the site's content is pertinent to this article. The website will be up and down due to increased traffic or server overloads or another reason NOT pertinent to this ARTICLE

NO PLAYLISTS! The article does not concern what is being played every single minute. If you don't have something to post or edit, don't add what's playing every single time. The yes.com site can offer that to people!

I do beleive that most, not all information is extremly relevant in the timeline and should be open then edited at a later date of any persoanl opinions or irrevalant information. But by closing the intial page to editing you are restricting that. Most people arent going to post on this page (the discussion page) because they wont click to it. They will just see the intial page is locked and then close it and we will miss pertinent events! sorry i wrote this twice but i feel its very important!

Vandalism...

The user Krich had wiped the "The End" and all proceeding event sections...it has been restored. ~Nite

I thank user Krich and do think that this event deserves to be covered by WIKI but not by the WBRU staff or by use of irrelevent information.

While the edits have been very messy since this is a current event and new users want to add information, I think the information should be restored and should be cleaned up after this event is over. ~Nite

whatever

Why was it erased?? this was a log of how the WBRU fans have reacted to the April Fools prank. It deserves to be part of the article and labled something like "The Day WBRU Fooled New Englan"... please return the log from 3-31 thru 4-1

Yes - please bring back the summary of "The End", I was enjoying a recap of the whole April Fools prank from beginning to end. It can be edited later, there's no reason to take it down right now. As of right now I'm not sure what's happened from 3 to 3:30 and why WBRU is playing normal music again. - Ryan

good point, although i believe if your going to post it should be pertinent info not just a opinion thats what this page is for. But whatever is added to the actual page can be edited later. I think that there should be a heading stating that all information on this page or in this section has not been verified.

I'd rather not have a log that includes every single song even the ones that weren't significant or whatever.

about discussion

If you don't like the page being updated so much, perhaps there should be a clearer statement that there is a dicussion board. I didn't even see this and learned how to get get here and make an entry until now. and I've been watching this site since this stuff started. other wise the updats are nice to have so I don't have to be glue to the radio at the time...people have lives.

Oh...well there it is. Just went up when I was typing....

I agree bring back the updates...I don't have a radio, plus living in a concrete jungle I wouldn't get the station in my room anyways.

the updates are needed

I believe registered users are allowed to edit it... quick everyone register

it is...but they arent letting new members edit either...just tried....

It appears as if a few wikipedia moderators "protected" the page so it can only be edited by already registered users and not by unregistered or new users. While it seems as if other people were vandalizing the page other then "The End" reports, it is pretty lame of wikipedia moderators to completely protect a page and revert it to it's previous state rather then all the reports. Clearly they don't understand what is going on as they have no idea not being from the RI area, but this actually is a pretty hilarious April Fool's prank and the updates and documentation were awesome in following. Thank you to those who were editing it until earlier. Shame on wikipedia moderators from not knowing what is going on (or apparently even reading the discussion page). - Ryan

Buddy FM

-Ok, as much as I love BRU with all of my heart and soul...Buddy FM has some pretty good past hits..."I saw the sign", "Sandstorm", etc...

-This is obviously a prank...there would be police involved if people were getting hurt

-Wikipedia is being stupid, comments should be allowed...this is BRU history.

---Piper

Thank you to whoever reposted the April Fools Joke. Tho it is all jumbled..it is still a major part of BRU's history. Thanks again.- wait...wtf... it was just up there...and now its gone agian.. come one WIKI. it is important to keep that up there. it is now party of BRU history. have some heart

^^^exactly-Piper

Thank You

Thank you for returning the log from the past 2 days. WBRU now goes down in History for pulling an awesome prank and there is proof of the prank on WIKI.... the WIKI people should be proud to have such an event occur on their page.

Krich is the user that keeps deleting everything...he must not have a soul

wtf Krich... seriously...please just keep it up on the site... u are creating a lot of enemies by doing this

I would like to see the play by play back up on the Wiki article, minus the speculation and the commentary. I was having a great time between last night and today watching as all of the new information came pouring in. --Luna

^^Seconded --M1k3

I agree with Luna, the paly by play should be posted (an edited version) minus the opinions etc. {lease to the moderators, know that Rhode Island is a small state and BRU is a major part of it I would say. Although this is just a prank, it was a prank that pretty much took over RI and parts of MA. And the play by play is a important part of it. Atleast a summerization is in order. -about WBRU coming back and the battle between the two. -first songs and signifigant songs played, for example "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys was played when BRU came back for the first time, i'm sure everyone gets the irony in this song. -the fact that members of BRU were posting on wiki even though there opinions were of course biased. -the fact that a timeline was made and many people were editing this article and it was updated constantly, even though not all posts were true. -important times in general

All of this is very important and would be a true historical event in the history of the station. I hope not all was deleted--JohnnyBoy 21:48, 1 April 2006 (UTC)-John[reply]

I'm sorry folks, I'm sure you are having fun, but Wikipedia is not a free host, blog, or webspace provider. This type of prank information and ongoing lists are just not appropriate for the Wikipedia article. I notice most of you participating and commenting here are extremely new to Wikipedia (like within the last day), so you may not be familar with our guidelines and policies.
Please remember what Wikipedia is... an encyclopedia.
BTW, you can sign your comments by ending them with four tildes, like this ~~~~ - that will automatically sign the comments and timestamp it. Thanks, --Krich (talk) 21:43, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is my view that the April Fool prank involving "Buddy FM" was extensive and widely noticed enough so that it deserves its own article, containing many of the details that do not belong in the main article about the station. Such an article about the event would be encyclopedic because the event will be remembered for years and become historic in nature. I have been convinced from the beginning that it had to be a hoax (http://zigamorph.livejournal.com/88218.html), but a lot of people were really fooled.

this is true that i am a new member but i have been going to wikipedia for about a year now i just wasnt a registered user JohnnyBoy 21:48, 1 April 2006 (UTC)-John[reply]

I completely agree, the wbru "prank" is part of it's history, meaning it goes in its biography. Krich, you obviously have some personal problems to sort out, but the when it was on wikipedia I was able to keep up with the major event! And it was major to many of the rock listeners in Southern New England. I myself rely heavily on Wikipedia for information not only for pop culutre such as this, but for school information. Everyone emensly enjoyed reading the updates of what happend. Stop being a poop head. -leah. registered user, but unlike some, I do have a life and refuse to log in.

Krich, I would just like to say that even if it is not put up in its entirety it is still important to the station to have it in its history at the least. this is a major part of the stations history and say some day that someone is doing a report on Radio Stations and comes across WBRU and sees that they pulled off one of the best pranks ever. That person would prolly like to be able to include something like that in their report and Wiki is the only place that would have the information on it. come on...at least allow a summary of the past days events on the page. -sami

For the curious, the website seems to have a hard time keeping up with the increased traffic. In the past three days the wbru.com website got more page hits than the site usually gets in 2 weeks.

What the hell is this about making listerns disgruntled? Thats totally fabricated bullshit, and is a very biased and unresearched addition. this is lame ~donnikhan

Yea Donni Khan

not gonna lie, i found this whole thing exciting because I got to go into Detective mode and try to find every lil bit of information that would prove my conclusion of it being a joke. It really was a lot of fun and I had a great time doing it all. And updating on wiki was awesome too cuz u get to see that other people cared as much as u did. as for "disgruntled" i know of a few listeners that were kind of annoyed by the whole thing...but for the majority of listeners taht i know of they really liked this whole thing...thought it was funny. congrats BRU... well played...but not well enough :) -Sami
