Marion High School is a AdvancED (Parent of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools[1]) [2] accredited public high school in Marion, Arkansas, United States serving the Marion School District in Crittenden County of the Memphis Metropolitan Area. The Marion School District has absorbed students from other districts due to state mandated consolidation- most recently Crawfordsville (2003) and Turrell (2010)[3]. Previous consolidations and expansions added the communities of Jericho (1947), a small portion of adjacent West Memphis (1953) and with integration Sunset (1968). [4]. The current facility dates from 1970, but Marion's schools were founded in 1869 and the first High School opened in 1911.[5]. The school averages between 850-900 students in grades 10–12.

Description

Marion High School is located on a two-acre campus adjacent to Interstate 55 and immediately north of Marion Junior High School. The campus is a series of buildings arranged around a common area or plaza called "The Mall". The Mall is landscaped and intersected by sidewalks to provide access between buildings. The main building houses nineteen teaching spaces including a suite of rooms for family and consumer science; the media center; faculty lounge/workroom; administrative offices; and a reception area for visitors. Additional renovations have included a new counseling center and ADA compliance. A seismic upgrade was completed on the main building in 2006 to enhance earthquake preparedness.

The arts and sciences building contains three regular classrooms, three science lab classrooms, a journalism lab and an visual art suite. The art suite allows for natural light in the workspace and includes a separate area for kilns.

A 6 classroom Humanities building was added in 1998 adjacent to the arts and sciences building.

Separate buildings are maintained for Band, Special Education, the In-school suspension program, Building Trades and Food Services.
