Sarathbabu Elumalai is an Young Indian Entrepreneur, social worker and politician. He is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and Birla Institute of Technology and Science(Pilani).[1] He is the winner of several awards such as CNN-IBN Award for Young Indian Leader[2] , 'Pepsi-MTV Youth Icon' [2] and 'Example to Youth Award' [2] .His story is a true motivation for people aspiring to rise up in life through sheer hard work.

Early life

Sarathbabu was born in a slum area located at Madipakkam ,a suburb of Chennai, Tamil Nadu , India[2] . His family of five young children were supported by his relentlessly hardworking mother Deepa Ramani[3] ,an Anganwadi worker[4] . She also did various other jobs like making idli,which Sarath used to sell before going to school everyday.[5] Sarathbabu often quotes his mother being the source of his inspiration.[5]

Education

Sarath excelled in studies from an early age[4] and secured admission at the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science (Pilani) with the help of the loans from his relatives and friends.After completing his graduation,he worked for three years with Polaris Software Labs[4] to repay his debts. Subsequently, he got admission to one of India's most prestigious management institutions, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

Entrepreneurship

After completing his management education, Sarathbabu decided to become an entrepreneur with the aim of providing employment to as many people as possible[6] . In 2006, he started his venture "Food King Catering services Private Limited" with a capital of Rs 2000 to cater to banks, software companies and educational institutions[4] [1]. It is now located in 6 locations around India with a turnover of 8 crore [4]. The first unit of FoodKing was opened by Mr. Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys.[5]

Social work

Sarathbabu has been actively motivating young people across the country with positiveness of his story and involved in various social activities like adopting education of needy meritorious students.In 2010,he started the 'Hunger Free India' foundation, an initiative to free India of hunger in 20 years[7] [8][9].He called upon everyone to observe 10th October a 'Hunger Free Day'[10].
