Robert Evans (born), better known by his stage name DJ Bless aka Sutter Kain is American rapper/producer/director from South Jamaica, Queens New York. His production goes from traditional east coast based hip-hop to a style he refers to as “ghetto metal.”

Early life

Born Robert Evans, DJ Bless grew up in Rochdale Village, a housing development in South Jamaica, Queens. With the introduction of crack cocaine into the already gang ridden community, options were very limited for younger members of the area. DJ Bless pursued music and his initial goal was to become a battle DJ.[1] DJ Bless eventually left New York City and moved with his parents to the Carolinas where the multi-platinum producer used this time to refine his skills.

Career

During his senior year of high school, Bless began to record music at a frenetic pace. DJ Bless devised a plan and put it into action to gain a distribution deal. Within a year, DJ Bless landed his first recording/distribution deal with MCA Records. Never So Deep Record’s music venture with MCA was caught in a turbulent era for the major label. In 2003 Jay Boburg resigned from his position as the president of MCA and shortly afterwards MCA Records folded and then was absorbed into Geffen Records. With that, Never So Deep Records was absorbed by Geffen Records. Unfortunately, Geffen Records wasn’t the best fit for Never So Deep Records. DJ Bless parted ways with the label. DJ Bless took immediate control of Never So Deep Records and continued to move forward with his own record company, while the majority of the artists and labels affiliated with MCA floundered. DJ Bless restructure his business approach, he also replaced his entire team and he took control over all aspects of Never So Deep Records including music/video production, marketing, promotions, and distribution. Realizing that technology could play a major role in positioning his company, Never So Deep Records took advantage of online distribution and social networking.

DJ Bless secured his first Record label deal with MCA /Universal in 2002 at the age of 18 years old. Since entering the music industry, DJ Bless has showcased his production skills with some of the music industry’s best producers such as; Kanye West, Scott Storch, Sean Combs, Swizz Beats, Sha Money, Rick Rubin, Havoc, R. Kelly and many more. He has also produced songs on LiL Kim’s Chart busting Album Labella Mafia (Atlantic Records 2003). In 2004/2005 DJ Bless signature production was heard around the world on several high profile remixes including, Mystikal’s “Pu**y Pop” (Jive Records), Dirt Bag Featuring Fiend “I’ll Leave You Dead” (Jive Records) and releases from both Keith Murray and the Outlaws. In 2005/2006 DJ Bless produced and mixed several songs on a Wendy Goldstein Project “That One Way” (Czarnok, Capital Records) and also placed music on EA Sports Fight Night 2005. DJ Bless is presently working on several major industry production projects including the musical score for the docudrama “Hoop Realities” (Key Stone Films/And1) a follow up to the award winning documentary “Hoop Dreams”. DJ Bless has also been commissioned to direct and score his first full feature film (”Insane”) to be released in the winter of 2009/2010. After producing 17 albums and 13 videos DJ Bless continues his trek towards elite status.

Style

DJ Bless’s style varies from traditional east coast hip-hop to the more menacing post-hardcore influenced styled called “ghetto metal.” Ghetto metal is also the vehicle for DJ Bless's alter ego, Sutter Kain.[2] Sutter Kain is the alter ego of DJ Bless. In contrast to DJ Bless, Sutter Kain's lyrical focus is taboo subjects such as torture, murder and gore. Unlike, the more mainstream production work of DJ Bless, Sutter Kain uses samples from post-hardcore, metalcore and mathcore bands.
