j.viewz is the electronic music project of the Brooklyn-based producer Jonathan Dagan. Different people participated in the project, the most prominent being the singers Noa Lembersky, Kelli Scarr and Joshua James, the trumpeters Urijah & Kelly Pratt, the saxophonist Daniel Zamir, the percussionist Glen Velez, the keyboard players Yakir Ben-Tov and David Adda, to name a few.

Early Releases

The first J.Viewz track was released on the "Chillout sessions 2" compilation issued by the Spanish label Blanco y Negro Music of Spain, alongside Sinéad O'Connor, Sneaker Pimps, Mike Oldfield, Paul Oakenfold and Massive Attack. This release was followed by many licensing requests from labels based in Germany, UK, Greece, Sweden, The Netherlands, India, Australia, Taiwan, Israel, Russia and the USA.[citation needed] These compilations featured acts like Moloko, Air, Erykah Badu, Mylo and Jill Scott, among others.

In April 2005 the debut album of J.Viewz titled Muse Breaks has been released worldwide by Deeplay Music (Sweden). Just before its release, the trance duo Infected Mushroom released a remix of "Muse Breaks" on their album IM the Supervisor. This album sold close to 90,000 copies and made the remix a dancefloor hit.

In November 2005 J.Viewz was chosen[by whom?] to produce an official remix for a Nina Simone song. Dagan chose to remix Sea Lion Woman and the result was released in the jazz remixes series Rewound & Reworked. Another collaboration appears on the album "Breathing Under Water" by Anoushka Shankar & Karsh Kale. The duo invited Noa Lembersky, the vocalist of J.Viewz, to sing on their album. The result is the single "Burn", which opens the album and followed by tracks with Sting, Norah Jones and Ravi Shankar.

In April 2006 The single "Your Country" won the 3rd place in the International Song Writing Competition under the Dance/Electronica category.[1] The single had also entered numerous charts, including DJ Mag's hype chart, Ministry of Sound's radio chart and DMC UPDATE Chart. The single received excellent reviews in the press,[citation needed] and was played by international radio stations like Kiss 100FM, Ministry of Sound radio and BBC Radio 1.

In March 2008 J.Viewz released an EP called "The Besides". The EP is an collection that includes a number of original tracks, a collaboration with the Three-time Grammy award winning master drummer Glen Velez, a cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal", the See line woman remix and a live version of "Under the Sun" which was featured in the debut album.

In January 2009 J.Viewz released 5 new remixes of "Smooth Criminal" in a limited edition single. The release featured remixes by Bugz in the Attic, S.T.Louder and Chris Simmonds.

In February 2009, "Smooth Criminal" entered the A-list of the famous "Jazz FM" UK. On this month J.Viewz had also released a music video of "Smooth Criminal" [1]. The video entered the charts of the Israeli Music 24 TV channel.

The band has performed in New York City, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Chicago. The highlight of the US tour was a successful show at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Manhattan.

Rivers and Homes

The second J.Viewz full-length Rivers and Homes was released in 2011 and was originated as an idea Dagan dubbed "Work In Progress". He began developing it in the spring of 2010. The plan was to make an album available for pre-order, and then record and release tracks gradually over the course of a year to fans that subscribed to the process. From early on the J.Viewz output drew subscribers in, and allowed the project to flourish and be financed through pre-orders of the future album. Each song was recorded and released in the same weather, mindset, and period-in-life in which it had been conceived, giving fans an intimate real time look at the artistic evolution of the album.

Right after the release of Salty Air - the 3rd track in the process, it was selected by Revlon to be used in their 2011 campaign, starring Halle Berry.

Once completed Dagan distributed the finished album in physical form to his subscribers, and only later made it available to the general public. In 2012 Rivers and Homes was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package.[2]
