In telecommunications, 4G is the fourth generation of cell phone mobile communications standards. It is a successor of the third generation (3G) standards. A 4G system provides mobile "ultra-broadband" Internet access.[1]

Frequencies
700 MHz
The 700 MHz band is currently used for analogue television and will be auctioned off in 2013 and then become operational with 4G in December 2014.
1800 MHz
The 1800 MHz band is currently operated as a 2G network by Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.
Telstra
Telstra was the first mobile phone network to operate 4G and 2G in the same band. They currently operate more then 10 4G devices.[4]
Optus
Optus has now installed their 4G networks in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne.[5]
2600 MHz
Telstra has expressed interest in using the 2600 MHz band in Australia
Resellers
Virgin Mobile
Currently resells Optus 4G and do not require subscribers to change plan or pay a high fee
Internode
Currently resell Optus 4G although only have 4G nano sims for the iPhone 5
Other Resellers
iiNet and Exetel also resell 4G phone plans and mobile broadband plans
Future Plans
Vodafone Australia
Vodafone Australia have announced that they will create a 4G network in Australia in 2013[6]
Internode
Internode Social media team have posted about Internode's plans to resell Optus 4G, although Optus has not announced if they will resell their 4G Network[7]
Exetel
Exetel have also announced they will be offering 4G services based on the Optus 4G network, and will have nanosims ready for the iPhone 5 release[8]
