== Submitting final project ==

Hi, Pete, I think that it was discussed last night and I just completely missed it - after we write up what we did to our article, how do we submit that information to you and Sara?

EJade and I have almost finished our stub to start. [[User:GramaLorrie30|Lorrie]] ([[User talk:GramaLorrie30|talk]]) 18:45, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

Screenshot of user contributions

I like File:User contributions detail.svg but it was removed from Help:User contributions today as outdated.[1] Can you make an updated version with the red and green numbers described at Wikipedia:Added or removed characters? Also, "diff" and "hist" have swapped positions. An often overlooked detail is that the arrow at a section edit summary is a link to the section. It's a minor issue but perhaps this could be mentioned. PrimeHunter (talk)

Conflict of Interest

Hi pete,

I think that I am having a conflict of interest problem that you spoke about in class tonight. I was trying to add a exhibition section to the Royal Ontario Museum page and was told it sounded too promotional. This was not my intention. However, I don't understand what I did wrong seeing as I was just trying to write factual information. This is what I wrote: Mesopotamia The Mesopotamia exhibition will be at the ROM from June 22, 2013 in the Garfield Weston Exhibition Hall located in the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal on Level 2B until January 5th 2014.[80] The exhibit showcases over 170 objects from the collections of the British Museum.[80] Urban civilization started in Mesopotamia where the first cities and complex forms of organization and economic activity emerged. The exhibition will teach people about Mesopotamia’s social and technological developments through time in ancient Sumer (4000-2000 BCE), the dominance of the Assyrian World Empire (1000 – 600 BCE), and the rise and fall of Babylon (600 -540 BCE). [80] Exhibition highlights include gold jewelry found in the tombs at the Royal Cemetery in the city of Ur, several artifacts illustrating the accomplishments of King Hammurabi (1792 – 1750 BCE), and a statue of King Ashurnasirpal II. A piece from the ROM’s collection is the Striding Lion that once adorned the throne room façade of the palace of Babylon’s King Nebuchadnezzar II (604-562 BCE). [80] The exhibition also touches on the rediscovery of Mesopotamia by the west and the catastrophic impact of the 2003 looting of Baghdad’s Iraq Museum and the destruction of numerous archaeological sites had on Iraq’s culture.[80] Mesopotamia has various interpretive elements such as a 3-D fly though of Babylon featuring the Tower of Babel and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, touchable reproductions, interactive touch-screens, translation of ancient texts, and audio explanations. [80] Programming for scholars, adults, and families will also take place during the exhibitions time at the ROM. Mesopotamia is presented by the British Museum in collaboration with the Royal Ontario Museum.[80]

Could you give me some tips regarding this problem? Thanks MJMcGowan (talk) 02:40, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The main problem is that a future event should not be collected in an encyclopedia because it has not happened and may be reached not take place, or maybe it happens but in another place or in another time, etc.--Cazalinks (talk) 07:01, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Questions on the course talk page

Hi, Pete. I posted 2 questions on the course talk page. One about moving images around and one about embedding pdfs. The pdfs would be copyrighted material, so I can't really put it up on Wiki media. thanks, Lorrie (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:46, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New Article for Class: PhET Interactive Simulations

Hi Pete, We would love to have help with the article on PhET. I'm going to try and get some references/citations in there. Thanks, Kathy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Klidessau (talkcontribs) 19:50, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pete, I did a lot of work on the article, finding references, etc. It's in my sandbox. If you want to take a look, I'd love the feedback. Thanks.Klidessau (talk) 22:34, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pete, would you recommend a "Featured" article that we could use for a model? Right now we are using Khan Academy. Would you say this is a good page or do you know another OER article that is "Good" or "Featured" . Or can you ping Sara? thanksPatricia.Loeblein (talk) 20:46, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply on my talk page. What is proper protocol to acknowledge a comment added on my talk page. Am I supposed to come back to your talk like this or just reply in my talk page? Patricia.Loeblein (talk) 23:33, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pete....I think we're close to trying to re-submit the PhET Article. We'd love for you to take a look. Do you think we should re-submit? Or is there something that we should improve upon? Thanks, Kathy Klidessau (talk) 23:32, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pete, So I'm confused...So I see the move, should I move it to the Wikipedia? But in the pink box, it also says that I can resubmit? Which one should I do?Klidessau (talk) 16:25, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed you made a post to WP:CP regarding an image copyright issue for File:US Soccer logo.svg. I'm not an expert in that department, but I believe that the Template:SVG Logo appended to the file answers your copyright concern, as the image is displayed nominally at 501x501 pixels and so should not be a problem. However, if you still wish to have the nominal display size reduced, I recommend tagging it with {{Non-free reduce|type=svg}} so that its nominal size can be reduced by someone who is more knowledgeable about Wikipedia's non-free image guidelines. I've removed your post to WP:CP as image problems are not dealt with there, only text copyright problems. I hope this helps. Thanks, --RAN1 (talk) 19:48, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

References template

Pete, thanks for a great class. I am trying to edit an article I started which got rejected for non-verifiable references. I went on chat and got some coaching not to use "Find a Grave". No problem, I have another reference. The problem is I am trying to edit my article in the Sandbox. I don't see how to remove or replace the references. There is this weird message I hadn't seen before too.

<!-- This will add a notice to the bottom of the page and won't blank it! The new template which says that your draft is waiting for a review will appear at the bottom; simply ignore the old (grey) drafted templates and the old (red) decline templates. A bot will update your article submission. Until then, please don't change anything in this text box and press "Save page". -->

What am I missing? Melisse May (talk) 20:33, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Melisse_May[reply]

Hi, please don't mind me butting in! @Melisse May: You just need to add this template to the bottom of the page: {{Reflist}}
(Copy/paste that directly. It uses curly brackets, not round brackets.) Then all your references will appear in its place, when you save.
Hope that helps. –Quiddity (talk) 21:38, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please butt in Quiddity and thank you. I tried what I understood of your solution but did not see a change. Do I need to wait for the bot to make another round or ::should I go back to Kindergarten and learn to follow directions? Would it help if you saw my Sandbox? Melisse May (talk) 18:57, 12 June 2013 (UTC)Melisse_May[reply]
@Melisse May: Happy to help, although I think I made a mistake, by misunderstanding the question. My apologies for that. (Someone told me years ago, "You're not a real Wikipedian until you've made, and learned from, at least 50 mistakes." I'm waaaay past there!) Curiosity, and making mistakes, are the best paths to learning. :)
I see your sandbox article at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Jacob Strader (steamboat). To replace the find-a-grace reference, you want to delete this content: "<ref name="Find a Grave">{{cite web|title=Find A Grave|url=http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=64308357|accessdate=2 March 2013}}</ref>"
Secondly, you want to delete the repeat shortversion that is further below: "<ref name="Find a Grave" />"
And then just add the new reference as you did the previous ones.
I'll do a few small tweaks to your draft, such as putting references after punctuation marks, but I'll leave the rest to you. :)
I'm not exactly sure what that weird message at the bottom means, but it can be safely ignored. –Quiddity (talk) 20:22, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That did the trick - thank you.Melisse May (talk) 13:42, 14 June 2013 (UTC)Melisse_May[reply]

Quiddity, thanks for stepping in here -- I've been watching this and am happy to see you were able to get it sorted out! Melisse, be sure to let us know if you have further difficulties. -Pete (talk) 15:13, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article West Linn Tidings has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no claim to notability, no reliable third party source coverage

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Talkback

Hi Pete,

I am a teacher, so it is weird to "Talk back" to our WP teacher, but I wanted to show you that I did learn. Check this out:

Hello, Peteforsyth. You have new messages at Patricia.Loeblein's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

thanks teach, PS if this doesn't work the first time , I may have to edit again, turns out if you preview, you can't check the link (at least that is my experience) Patricia.Loeblein (talk) 02:07, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I missed class on Tuesday and was hoping to catch the archive and attend the lab tomorrow. I will check in the morning. (BTW the first thing I learned in class was to sign my talk - good thing to know) thx Patricia.Loeblein (talk) 02:38, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
