Comment/question:

Perhaps the User:talk notice by BracketBot can be improved to report current unmatched brackets dynamically.

As DPL bot reports disambiguation links. Compare my talk page (version 2013-06-16 11:53) sections 55 and 56.

P64 (talk) 22:06, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@P64: As in you want a new heading for each day? 930913(Congratulate) 16:41, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No. The option "Check to confirm" checks the current version of the page and and therefore reports no problem if the page currently includes no links to dab pages. --P64 (talk) 17:28, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@P64: It would be ideal I guess, but for lack of better wording to describe the problem, shoving what's wrong in the editor's face is the best way to put across the message. 930913(Congratulate) 02:51, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am not professionally a programmer in any language and I do not know any python. As I understand the term, DPL reports disambiguation links dynamically; the report differs according to when it is viewed. Bracketbot reports unmatched brackets statically; it provides a fixed report that may be obsolete when viewed.
It is good that Bracketbot's report covers unmatched brackets from the past, not only those added by the offending editor.
Pass this on to the Bracketbot maintainer if applicable. --P64 (talk) 17:26, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@P64: The point is, we would need to bring the message that BracketBot gives up to scratch first. 930913(Congratulate) 00:03, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment/question: HI, I just spotted that the bot notified a new user User talk:Zhang Tianshu about brackets, as it turns out there might be one unpaired bracket in there, but the page has a lot of maths on it so < and > are generally not brackets, but are greater than or less than symbols. I wondered if you might want to set a condition on the bracket bot not to search for triangle brackets on pages which have maths in their categories. Just a suggestion anyway. EdwardLane (talk) 09:11, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is being worked on. Bgwhite (talk) 06:17, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you deleted the page I recently tried to make for À Point Theatre Company. The purpose was not advertising, but I understand why it was taken down as it is a young company. Would it be possible to get rid of it completely if it will not appear on the database please? I think this would be better than how it comes up now as it looks very unprofessional.

Thanks very much, and sorry for not reading into your guidelines thoroughly enough before creating the page 77.57.214.195 (talk) 16:54, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

BracketBot didn't delete the article - it just notified you of mismatched brackets. You may want to contact the user who deleted the article: User:GiantSnowman. Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 01:56, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are registered user. You have my sincerest condolences. :) Name is shown in red because you don't have a user page, the page that gives info about you. Click on your red name and you can create the page. Click on any other editor's name and you can see there user page. You don't have to create one. You don't need to make it fancy or plain. Do whatever you want except to make it like an article. Bgwhite (talk) 17:16, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment/question: Your bot alerted me to 2 errors I'd made - thanks. For each of these I'd dropped an opening bracket, so I needed to change { to {{ twice.

FYI, the bot also alerted me to an error in the content just above my edit, when really it could/should have alerted the person who added/edited that content. I've fixed it, changing from: ref>name to: ref name

Just mentioning in case you want to improve the bot!

"detected that your edit to Lee Hays..."

Actually I was only moving a citation that was in a paragraph of the text to a footnote without altering it since I wasn't who placed it there. Of course it should have a full stop, but I thought I'd perhaps modified another's contribution enough. :) Masalai (talk) 17:16, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You removed the opening parenthesis before "Source:" but left the corresponding closing parenthesis; that summoned the bot. Fixed. Huon (talk) 02:16, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I could probably do so if you could give me some information to go by. The IP address you used for this question was not notified by BracketBot, has not made any other edits, and you didn't tell us what article or what diff this is about. Please provide either the article title or the talk page with the relevant BracketBot notification, preferably the latter. Huon (talk) 02:51, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Page: Paul Harvey, Jr.

Diff: [2]

I never replaced Paul Harvey Jr. As Paul's sub I did the show whenever Paul was sick and filled in for Paul Jr. on the AM show when his dad was ill. I also did the memorial shows which lasted two or three weeks after Paul Sr. died. The oft-cited release that I was going to do a permanent show was wrong. This was announced by someone at Citadel but it was news to me and to my agent. I already had my show at KGO and my Real Estate show and had no need or desire to do a daily commentary, especially since making it newsworthy now that I lived in Sn Francisco would mean waking up at Midnight every night which I was glad to do once in awhile when I filled in for the Harveys but never considered doing as a regular thing. the release was put out by a Citadel official who apparently thought I would jump at the chance to do it, but I declined, especially since their offer was profit sharing of the spots. Since Citadel, though they were always perfectly nice to me, was near bankruptcy at that time, I didn't see the future of being a single creditor behind a bunch of banks and investment houses and figured I'd never actually see any money from this arrangement, and so, thanking them for the offer, said, thanks, but no thanks. It is the way of the internet that articles like the one cited never die, but it was wishful thinking on someone's part and not reality.

All BracketBot pointed out was that when you removed part of the source you left other parts, leading to mismatched brackets. I've proposed the page for deletion because there's no indication that Paul Harvey, Jr. is independently notable. Huon (talk) 02:51, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It would be so much more convenient if others didn't point out mistakes - then one wouldn't have a bad conscience for not fixing them. I've done so for you. Huon (talk) 05:26, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your assistance with another article. I recently ran into a peculiar problem with this article. I added a footnote but for some reason it has a clerical-formatting defect which has an automatic notation but I can't seem to fix it. Would you mind taking a look? BB seems confused; the syntax isn't broken; the table is fine. AWB seems to be sometimes similarly confused about brackets defining tables.
