"Burns, Baby Burns" is the fourth episode from the eighth season of The Simpsons. It is the first Simpsons episode ever written by Ian Maxtone-Graham.

Synopsis:

Template:Spoiler Larry Burns (voice of Rodney Dangerfield) is the illegitimate son of Mr. Burns and Lily Bancroft, daughter of a Yale University classmate. Lily's family forced her to give up Larry to an orphanage, and according to Burns, her family "bundled her up to a convent in the South Seas." Regardless of the resources his father provides, Larry proves to be unsuccessful, albeit good natured.

During Larry's appearance on the show, he pretended to be kidnapped by Homer in order to catch the attention of his father.

The character of Larry Burns is very much based on Dangerfield himself, and there is a reference to the movie Caddyshack at the very end of the episode. Larry Burns all of a sudden yells "Let's Party!" and Journey's "Anyway You Want It" starts playing, a reference to Dangerfield's character Al Czervik in Caddyshack.

Quotes

  • Burns: How were his test scores?
Admissions Officer: Let's just say this: he spelled "Yale" with a "6."
  • Admissions Officer: Sir, in order to compensate for your son's poor test scores, you'd have to build Yale an international airport.
Second Admissions Officer: Yale COULD use an international airport.
  • Larry: "I don't get no regard. No regard at all! No esteem neither!"
  • Party guest: Larry, you must meet our daughter, the debutante. She came out last spring.
Larry: Whoa! Put her back in. She's not done yet.
  • Burns: Tell me, does your son bring home his idiot friends for you to talk to them?
Homer: Oh, all the time. Have you ever met this kid Milhouse? He's a little weiner....
