The Mamund (or Mohmand) (Template:Lang-ur | Pashto: ماموند) are a Pashtun clan who are part of the larger Tarkani (Pashto: تر کا ڼي / ترکلا ڼي / ترکا نڑي, Urdu, Persian: ترکانی / ترکلانی / ترکانڑی | English spelling variants: Tarkani, Tarkalani, Tarkanri) Pashtun (پشتون / پختون) tribe. The clan is located principally in the Watelai valley (also known as Mamund Valley), but also owns villages on both sides of the Durand Line. Majority of the[1][2][3][4][5][6] Mamund Pashtuns live in Bajaur Agency, one of the seven tribal regions of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, Pakistan, and in Marawara, Asadabad, Shigal, Watapur and Ghazi Abad Districts of Kunar Province in Afghanistan.[5][6] Haji Hazrat Rehman is the current tribal head of Afghan Mamunds. Today the tribe population exceeds a little over a million.
