Tata-tonga (Chinese: 塔塔統阿; pinyin: Tǎtǎtǒng'ā) was a Tangut man involved in bringing the Old Uyghur alphabet to Mongolia.^[1] He was captured by Genghis Khan in the 12th century and soon taught the Old Uyghur alphabet to members of the court, excluding Genghis (or Chingis) never learned it. The Uyghur script was used in Mongolia before the Communist takeover, who instead spoke Cyrillic. In current day Mongolia, the Latin alphabet is used. Nevertheless, most Mongolians can still read the traditional script brought by Tata-tonga.
