GOCE July 2013 news report

Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter
  • Participation: Out of 30 people who have signed up for this drive so far, 18 have participated. If you have signed up for the drive but have not yet participated, it isn't too late. If you haven't signed up for the drive, sign up now!
  • Progress report: Thus far we have reduced the number of May/June 2012 articles to just 124 articles, so we're on the right track. Unfortunately, for the first time in GOCE history, the number of articles in the backlog has actually gone up during this drive. While all participants are currently doing a fine job, we just don't have as many of them as we have had in the past. We have over 500 editors on our mailing list, but only 18 editors who have done a copy edit for the drive. If you're receiving this newsletter, it's because you have an interest in copy editing. Join the drive! Even if you only copy edit one article, it helps. Imagine how much progress we could make if everyone chipped in just one article.

– Your drive coordinators: Torchiest, Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95, and The Utahraptor.

August 2013 WikiProject Christianity Newsletter

ICHTHUS

August 2013

From the Editor

Welcome to the August 2013 issue of the WikiProject Christianity newsletter. We focus on the historical Jesus and reflect on the last month.

The project has another featured picture, The ruins of Holyrood Chapel, a digitisation of an oil-on-canvas painting. Our top-importance article, Jesus, has been nominated for Featured Article status, the discussion can be seen here; Knights of Colombus has also been nominated as a FAC.

Ecgbert (bishop) and Church architecture in Scotland have both this month achieved Good Article status.

Our project had several of its articles featured in the main page DYK section, including Hinckley Priory, Little Chapel, St Peter's Church, Ropsley, Chip Ingram, St John the Evangelist's Church, Corby Glen, Great George Street Congregational Church, St Mary's Church, Walton-on-the-Hill and Bunge church.

Our thanks go to all of those who have worked to achieve these article milestones.

Church of the month

This image, of Maillezais Cathedral and created by Selbymay was this month promoted to featured picture status.

Membership report
We would like to welcome our newest members, Thechristophermorris, Psmidi and Jchthys. Thank you all for your interest in this effort. If any members, new or not, wish any assistance, they should feel free to leave a message at the Christianity noticeboard or with me or other individual editors to request it.

Focus on...

THE
HISTORICAL JESUS

What was Jesus like? What did he preach? Did he claim to be the Messiah? Did he predict an apocalypse? What can we know about him outside a religious context? The Historical Jesus article discusses what can be known about Jesus with various degrees of probability. While scholars agree on the over all flow and outline of Jesus' life (his baptism by John, debated Jewish authorities, healings, and his crucifixion by Pilate) they have built various and diverging portraits of the rest of his life. These range from minimalist portraits that accept very little of the gospel accounts to maximalists who accept most of the accounts as historical.

The portraits of Jesus have at times been unwitting reflections of the researchers themselves, and Crossan once quipped that some authors "do autobiography and call it biography". However, the study of historical Jesus has made one thing clear: there is so much to learn about Jesus that the more one looks, the more there is to discover.

From the bookshelf

Jesus of Nazareth: An Independent Historian's Account of His Life and Teaching by Maurice Casey 2010 ISBN 0-567-64517-7

In this book Maurice Casey not only draws on his special expertise in the Aramaic traditions and the Q source, but provides a comprehensive review of the various approaches to the historical Jesus.

Read WP:AOHA and WP:RPA and stop posting unproven drivel about me

You've been going on for quite some time now, since March 2013, posting your unproven vitriol about me on your user page. I urge you again to read WP:AOHA. You will clearly see there, at least if your brain is willing to accept what is in front of you, that you are in violation of Wikipedia rules by posting unproven accusations about other editors. Your argument that you have the right to post such drivel on your user page and that I am not allowed to remove it, does not apply because this is a clear-cut attack on another user, and, as is mentioned in WP:RPA, I have the right to remove this clear-cut attack. As I have written before, we can go on doing this for a long time still: you regularly posting your little rant and then me removing it. I feel no compulsion whatsoever to lodge a complaint against you at WP:ANI because for one, I don't need to do that per WP rules, and secondly, you really are not hurting me at all by posting your twisted accusations because they are unfounded and I'll just remove them. If anything, you are hurting yourself every time you put up your rant because every time you do that, you are reminding yourself of having been found out here on Wikipedia for what you were doing: your WP:CENSORSHIP, your WP:POV, your WP:COISELF, your WP:SELFCITE, and your WP:SELFPROMOTION. And you actually know that I can prove all this, as I have already done several times in the past, and that is why you never replied on the ANI procedure that I once started on you, choosing instead to write to an admin on his talkpage, hoping that you could garner some sympathy from him. I hope you will come to your senses and stop this little charade of yours. Feel free to remove this message after you stop posting your vindictive little rant about me on your user page. Also feel free to continue editing Wikipedia but please stick to Wikipedia rules instead of violating Wikipedia's core principles. :) - Takeaway (talk) 10:57, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No idea why User Rak-Tai calls this spam. I'm not advertising anything unlike he tried to do here with his WP:SELFPROMOTION on his now deleted article. :-) - Takeaway (talk) 18:51, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Takeaway. I noticed that you made a comment on the page User:Rak-Tai that didn't seem very civil, so it has been removed. Wikipedia needs people like you and me to collaborate, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. - Takeaway (talk) 16:06, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not attack other editors, as you did on User:Rak-Tai. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. - Takeaway (talk) 13:02, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing, as you did at User:Takeaway. Your edits have been reverted or removed.

Do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Continuing to edit disruptively may result in your being blocked from editing. - Takeaway (talk) 18:36, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive behaviour. Your behaviour is verging on harassment. Wikipedia prides itself on providing a safe environment for its collaborators, and harassing edits, such as the one you made to User:Rak-Tai, potentially compromise that safe environment. If you continue behaving like this, you may be blocked from editing. - Takeaway (talk) 18:40, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE December 2013 Blitz wrap-up and January Drive invitation

December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors

The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page!

The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there!

Coordinator election: Voting is open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January through 30 June 2014. Voting will run until the end of December. For complete information, please have a look at the election page.

January 2014

Information icon Hello, I'm Takeaway. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, it's important to be mindful of the feelings of your fellow editors, who may be frustrated by certain types of interaction, such as your addition to User:Rak-Tai. While you probably didn't intend any offense, please do remember that Wikipedia strives to be an inclusive atmosphere. In light of that, it would be greatly appreciated if you could moderate yourself so as not to offend. Thank you. - Takeaway (talk) 08:01, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Takeaway. I noticed that you made a comment in the edit summary of your edit on the page Johannes Maas that didn't seem very civil. Wikipedia needs people like you and me to collaborate, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. - Takeaway (talk) 09:06, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you're going to need to establish reasons for the page move of Johannes Maas at the talk page first as there is already discussion there which is not in favour of a move. Repeatedly moving the page will only result in reverts by me or someone else. Severo (talk) 14:16, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The "discussion" to which you referred is four years old by an editor who does not currently participate. Please do not revert my change until YOU can show a reference to use the name Johannes.
He is listed as Jan Maas in the 1924 Olympics. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlands_at_the_1924_Summer_Olympics#Cycling
It doesn't matter how old the discussion is - there has been one so you need to go back and argue a point - and the discussion needs to be there, not here, not on my talk page or anywhere else. You need to discuss before moving. It's quite simple, make a WP:Requested move and see what people say. Don't be afraid of it. I don't even understand what the big fuss is about to be honest - just make a requested move and get on with it. Severo (talk) 21:47, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
