Marcus Füreder (* born November 27, 1974 in Linz, Upperaustria) better known by his stage name Parov Stelar, is an Austrian musician, producer and DJ. His musical style roots in the combination of Jazz, House, Electro and Breakbeat. Parov Stelar is known as one of the pioneers of Electroswing.[1]
Biography
Marcus Füreder started gaining experience as a DJ at nightclubs during the mid-late 1990s. He got involved in producing and publishing in 2000. After his first maxi releases under his original name, Füreder decided to start his own business in 2003 and founded the label Etage Noir Recordings.[2] A year later, now under the stage name Parov Stelar, the EP Kiss Kiss immediately landed in the playlist of the Austrian radio station FM4. KissKiss and the release soon after the LP Rough Cuts provided him breakthrough on the international electronic music scene.[3]
Parov Stelar was among the first who produced electronic swing music in Europe.[4] With his album Shine the BBC named Parov Stelar as one of the most promising producers active in Europe today.[5] His specific approach to music production, combined with a proven sense of sound aesthetics, led to a reaction from audiences and colleagues all around the world, giving him a reputation as the founder of a new genre: Electro Swing.[6]
In November 2005 Parov Stelar had his first appearance together with a Live-Band. This was the kick start for concerts in various European cities, appearances at music festivals like Glastonbury, Eurockéennes, Rock Werchter, Solidays and Zurich Open Air as well as performances in Istanbul and Mexico City. The cast varies from the Parov Stelar Trio up to the full cast of the Parov Stelar Band consisting of Parov Stelar (Programming), Cleo Panther (Vocals), Jerry di Monza (Trumpet), Max the Sax (Saxophone), Willie Larsson Jr. (Drums) and Michael Wittner (Bass).
He won three Amadeus Austrian Music Awards in 2013 (Best Live Act, Best Electronic Act, Best Album) and one in 2014 (Best Live Act).[7] Parov Stelar worked with Lana Del Rey, Bryan Ferry and Lady Gaga. He released six albums, more than twenty EPs and sold more than 250,000 albums independently.[3] The track Booty Swing reached top chart positions in the electronic US and Canadian iTunes charts.[8]
His tracks have been used on hundreds of compilations worldwide as well as in TV shows, TV series, movies and advertising spots which brought him international recognition.[9] The video clips underlied with his music got over 100 million views by now. The electro-swing-titel Catgroove in the visual version of Australian dancer TSC Forsythe was viewed over 21 million times so far.
