MLS Cup 2014 will be the 19th edition of MLS Cup. The final will be held in Carson, California at the StubHub Center. The championship will be contested between LA Galaxy and New England Revolution. The Galaxy return to MLS Cup for the first time since 2012, while it is the first time since 2007 the Revolution have reached the MLS Cup final. The 2014 final will be a rematch of the 2005 MLS Cup final, in which LA defeated New England 1–0 in extra time.

It will be a record sixth-time that the MLS Cup will be held at the StubHub Center, and the first time in two years that the venue has hosted MLS Cup. The Galaxy earned the right to host the match due to having the second-best regular season record, whilst New England had the fourth-best record.

Regardless of the outcome of the match, LA has earned a berth into the 2015–16 CONCACAF Champions League, although New England can only do so by winning the Cup. Because the Seattle Sounders won both the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final and the Supporters Shield, the Galaxy took Seattle's spot and earned a berth into the Champions League as the Supporters Shield runner-up. Should New England win MLS Cup, they will enter as the MLS Cup champion representative.

MLS Cup 2014 will be the final match of Landon Donovan's professional career, which has spanned for the last 18 years. Donovan is widely regarded by fans and pundits alike to be one of the best soccer players the United States has ever produced. More importantly, this match has been widely regarded as the kick starter for Charlie Davies and Lee Nguyen's resurgence with the U.S. national team.
