Funny, I'd have sooner likened Madan's vocal style to that of another woman, Wendy Robinson of The Popinjays.

The NME, Morrissey and Echobelly

I think this interview with Sonya has interesting information about the relationship with the NME:

"But basically, the NME has this real love-hate thing with him (Morrissey) and, because they couldn't get to him, they wound up using us as a kicking bag instead."
