The 2015 Florida Gators football team will represent the University of Florida in the sport of American football during the 2015 college football season. The Gators will compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They will play their home games at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on the university's campus in Gainesville, Florida. The 2015 season is the Gators' first under head coach Jim McElwain.
Previous season
Last year's team finished the regular season 6–5, with an upset win against No. 9 Georgia. The Gators became bowl eligible for the first time since the 2012 season after their win against Eastern Kentucky. Florida was invited to play in the Birmingham Bowl against the East Carolina Pirates of the American Athletic Conference, where they won 28–20.
On November 16, 2014, head coach Will Muschamp would be replaced after the 2014 football season[1] with Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain.
Schedule
Florida announced their 2015 football schedule on October 14, 2014. The 2015 schedule consist of 7 home games, 4 away games and 1 neutral game in the regular season. The Gators will host SEC foes Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt, and will travel to Kentucky, LSU, Missouri, and South Carolina. Florida will meet for the 93rd meeting with Georgia in their annual neutral site rivalry in Jacksonville, Florida.[2]
The 2015 season will be the first season since the winning national champion 2008 season which Ole Miss returns to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium after an upset and the only Gator loss of the season. The Gators will host all four non–conference foes New Mexico State, East Carolina, and in–state rivals Florida Atlantic and Florida State.
