Marcus Vinicius Vieira de Souza (born May 31, 1984), better known as Marquinhos, is a Brazilian professional basketball player. A 6'9½" (2.07 m), 225 lb (102 kg) small forward-power forward, he was a second round NBA draft choice of the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, in the 2006 NBA Draft, chosen 43rd overall. Vinicius played professionally for Sao Carlos at the time of his selection in the 2006 NBA draft. He currently plays for Flamengo in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB).
Professional career
In 2004-05 season Vinicius played professionally in the Italian 1st Division with Premiata Montegranaro.
NBA
Vinicius played a total of 26 games for the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, scoring 50 points.[1] He spent part of the 2006-07 NBA season with the NBA Development League's Tulsa 66ers, for whom he played 13 games.[2] In 2008, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, only to be waived 2 days later.[3]
Brazilian national team
Vinicius has also been a member of the senior men's Brazilian national basketball team. In 2007, he won a gold medal at the 2007 Pan American Games.
