The Book of Souls is the upcoming sixteenth studio album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, due to be released on 4 September 2015.[1] It is the band's first since 2010's The Final Frontier and is also their longest album to date, with a total length of 92 minutes. It will also prove to be the longest gap between album releases in the band's career at five years, and the band's first double album. The album was produced by longtime Iron Maiden collaborator Kevin "Caveman" Shirley.

Background

Plans for the band's sixteenth studio were first revealed by vocalist Bruce Dickinson in September 2013, who expected a release in 2015.[2] The album was recorded at Guillaume Tell Studios, Paris, which they had previously used for 2000's Brave New World, with producer Kevin Shirley in late summer 2014, with the finishing touches added in early 2015.[3] Dickinson's treatment for a cancerous tumour pushed the album's launch back to 4 September, with the title, artwork and track listing revealed on 18 June, while a supporting tour has been delayed until early 2016.[4]
