Vostu Controversy

In 2007, during his junior year at Harvard, Kushner co-founded Vostu. The company, at one time, was the largest social gaming company in Latin America and is now headquartered in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Kushner no longer speaks about his time there, both in documents for his fund or in interviews, due to his disagreements with the founders about his true role in founding the company and in some cases referring to himself as the sole founder.[7] Kushner was with Vostu for only a short period, leading to speculation about whether it was appropriate to even be calling himself a founder.

Thrive Capital

In 2009, Kushner founded Thrive Capital, a private equity and venture capital firm that focuses on media and internet investments.[8] Since its founding, Thrive has raised $750 million from institutional investors, including Princeton University[9]

Previous funds include Thrive IV, $400 million in September 2014, Thrive III, $150 million in September 2012, and Thrive II, $40 million which was raised in late 2011. [10][9]

Thrive has invested in companies including Instagram, Harry’s, Warby Parker, Twitch, Instacart and Stripe. According to a profile in Forbes, Thrive was one of three firms (joining Sequoia Capital and Greylock Partners) to invest in Instagram's $50 million Series B round at a valuation of $500 million. Forbes wrote that after Instagram sold to Facebook, "Thrive had doubled its money in 72 hours."[6]

For his work with Thrive, Kushner was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30, Inc. Magazine’s 35 Under 35, Crain’s 40 Under 40 and Vanity Fair’s Next Establishment.[11] [12] [13] [14]

Oscar

Kushner is a co-founder of Oscar, the health insurance start-up transforming the healthcare industry through the use of technology, data and design. Through a high-tech, data-driven approach, easy-to-understand language and a unique set of benefits, Oscar is drastically changing the way consumers think about and interact with health insurance. Founded in 2012, Oscar has raised $320 million in financing and is valued at $1.5 billion. The company currently insures over 40,000 members across New York and New Jersey.[15]

Oscar has been named to CNBC’s Disruptor 50, Inc. Magazine’s Most Innovative Startups and MM&M Top 40 Healthcare Transformers.[16][17][18]

Cadre

Kushner is a co-founder of Cadre, alongside Jared Kushner and the company’s CEO Ryan Williams. Cadre is a new technology-enabled framework that matches high-net worth investors with institutional equity real estate opportunities. Cadre’s platform transforms the real estate industry by providing transparency and liquidity. The company has raised more than $250 million in capital. [19]
