The Western Suburbs Magpies are a rugby league club in Sydney, Australia. Formed in 1908, the Wests were one of the eight foundation clubs of the first New South Wales Rugby League competition in Australia.

The Magpies have played at three home grounds since they started. They had a strong shared identity for most of their existence with the more successful Collingwood Magpies, despite the fact that Collingwood played Australian Rules Football. They played at Pratten Park) in Ashfield for their first sixty years, then they moved to Lidcombe Oval in the late seventies. This was due to Ashfield council not allowing the club to play matches on a Sunday (as this was the church day). In 1987, they moved to Campbelltown's Orana Park, which, after a $25-million renovation, is now called Campbelltown Stadium. This stadium has become a beacon of outer western Sydney development and is attended by Western Suburbs fans whenever the joint venture choose to play there.

The Magpies do not play in the National Rugby League, having formed a joint venture with Balmain Tigers to play under the name Wests Tigers. They still exist as a separate entity for all other purpose however. In 2005, the joint venture won the premiership and added a fifth to the Western Suburbs tally.

The Magpies have now been relegated to the 2nd tier team in the eyes of the Wests Tigers board. Players who played for the Magpies, and then played for the Wests Tigers joint venture team are no longer dropped back to the Magpies, but to Balmain. This results in the best players being taken out of the Magpies, and then not returning when they are dropped from 1st grade. This has contributed towards the Magpies having won only one match for season 2006.

Players of Note

Supporters of Note

The late Simmo - Simmo was, no IS a legend. He used to write poetry which would be recited on the busses to away games, and at home games prior to kick off. Simmo was an all round great bloke, and the first Life Member of the Diehards. Simmo is remembered every year with the Diehards "Supporter of the Year" Award, something which all supporters strive to win at the clubs annual presentation night.

Mick "Loudspeaker" Gallagher - a young man with the voice of a roadtrain! Often led the supporters in the Magpies chants, as well as singing the club song. Member of Diehards, the elite group of Magpies fans. Is still seen from time to time at home matches in Campbelltown, leading the diehards on the hill. You know its going to be loud when loudspeaker is in town. Can be an opinionated prick when he desires, which is a fair call because he is.

Stu Gillian - Little pommy bloke from the North of England. Foundation member of Diehards. Enjoys a beer. Top bloke (for a pom).

Dave Fabry - Huge bloke, loves a beer and is a foundation member of the Diehards and all round good bloke. Not a Pom.

Andrew Waite - Former Diehard, now has been detoxed and joined the board of the club. He still however can be seen from time to time on Diehards Hill at Leumeah, questioning the ability of officials on (and off) field. Not a Pom (we think).
