Dell Boomi is a business unit within Dell that specializes in Cloud-based integration, API management and Master Data Management. It was acquired by Dell in 2010. Organizations use Dell Boomi to connect cloud and on-premises applications without the need for coding. Leading Software as a service companies and enterprise customers count on Dell Boomi to handle a wide variety of use cases from simple cloud-to-cloud integration, to more complicated deployments involving any combination of SaaS or on-premises integrations as well as MDM, EDI and API management functionality.
History
Since its Founding in 2000, Boomi has sought to make it accessible for companies of all industries and sizes to tackle the challenges of the modern hybrid-IT environment. Beginning initially with "configuration-based" integration, Boomi then introduced Visual Integration Technology to allow users to build and deploy integration processes using a visual interface and a drag and drop technique. This interface remains one of the key elements of the current Boomi platform.
In 2007 Boomi released the technology now known as "AtomSphere", the industry's first Integration Cloud. AtomSphere kept the visual, point and click interface for building integrations and can be managed through a simple browser-based UI. Atomsphere connects any combination of SaaS, cloud and on-premises applications without the overhead of maintaining integration software.
On November 2, 2010, Boomi announced its acquisition by Dell.[1]
Products
iPaaS
Dell Boomi offers a cloud-native integration platform as a service (iPaaS) in their flagship AtomSphere product. AtomSphere is a multi-tenant, multi-purpose platform that supports a variety of custom integration use cases, including cloud-to-cloud, SaaS-to-SaaS, cloud-to-on-premises, on-premises-to-on-premises and B2B integration. Boomi AtomSphere elastically scales to meet high-volume needs in mobile, batch (ETL) and EDI environments. The platform is easily accessed via a browser and delivers a range of real-time integration, master data management (MDM) and API management functionality.
Master Data Management
Dell Boomi MDM addresses the three components of an organization's unified data management strategy: data integration, MDM and domain-specific data quality services. As a native cloud application, Dell Boomi MDM requires no hardware or software to manage. As with Dell Boomi's iPaaS offering, Boomi MDM utilizes Boomi Suggest. This allows for the use of crowd-sourced suggestions to rapidly design and implement domain models and speeds up the most time-intensive step in implementing an MDM solution.[2][3]
API Management
The Dell Boomi API Management service is 100 percent cloud-based, offering businesses faster implementation as well as lower upfront costs. Customers have a centralized location to manage all of their APIs, regardless of how the APIs are created, whether with AtomSphere or not. This also allows for the flexibility and agility to choose where APIs are deployed—on premises or in the cloud.
