The Beards are an Australian comedy folk rock band which formed in 2005. The group play music based on the virtues of having a beard.

Career

Forming in 2005 in Adelaide, South Australia, to play a one off show, The Beards rose in popularity and soon found they had developed a local cult following with the release of their first album The Beards in July 2007. The band followed this up by being selected to play the Adelaide Big Day Out in 2008 & 2009.^[1] In 2009 the band traveled to Alaska to perform at the opening ceremony of the World Beard & Moustache Championships.^[2]^[3]

The band has gone on to tour Australia extensively, they have produced video clips for the tracks "If Your Dad Doesn’t Have a Beard, You’ve Got Two Mums",^[4] "Got Me a Beard",^[5] "Beard Accessory Store" and "You Should Consider Having Sex With a Bearded Man"^[6] with the latter single coming 99th place in Triple J's Top 100 list of 2011,^[7] as well as releasing a live DVD. In 2013 they plan to tour the UK, which includes appearing at the Bearded Theory Festival in May.

In early 2014, The Beards travelled Europe on a Euro - Bout To Grow A Beard Tour^[8] with stops in Britain (Stereo, Glasgow;^[9] The Glee Club, Nottingham;^[10] The Black Box, Belfast^[11]), Denmark (Copenhagen), The Netherlands and Germany (Frankfurt; Underground, Cologne). At Cologne a 90-minute show was recorded for Rockpalast.^[12]

In November and December they went on their The Beard Album UK & European Launch Tour. They stopped again in Britain, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany with additional stops in France, Sweden, Norway and Switzerland.^[13] The Beards released the music video of Strokin' My Beard in July 2015. It consists of footage of their last tour shot by fans in the audience.^[14]

The Beards' anniversary tour Ten Long Years, One Long Beard The Anniversary Tour will start in September 2015 and will stop in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Switzerland and the UK.^[15] In October they will continue their tour through Australia.^[16]
