Agents of Mayhem is an upcoming open world action-adventure video game set in the Saints Row universe,[1] developed by Volition and published by Deep Silver. The game is set for a 2017 release date for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.[2]

Agents of Mayhem takes place after the "retcon ending" of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell and thus serves as a reboot of the Saints Row universe. The game's plot revolves around an organization known as "MAYHEM", founded by Persephone Brimstone (a character first seen in Gat Out of Hell) and funded by the Ultor Corporation. Baring the Saints' purple fleur-de-lis logo, MAYHEM's goal is to stop "LEGION" (a terrorist organization) from destroying the world's nations.[3]

Gameplay

Agents of Mayhem an open world game played from a third-person perspective. The game takes place in a futuristic version of Seoul, South Korea, billed as "the city of tomorrow".[4] The player controls three agents at a time, with the ability to switch between them at will. There are 12 total agents to choose from, each with their own unique play-style and abilities.[5]

Development

In 2014, after receiving $200,000 in incentives from the city of Champaign, Illinois, Volition began hiring upwards of 100 new employees to begin work on a new project.[6] Little was known about this new game until a trademark for Agents of Mayhem filed by Koch Media (Deep Silver's parent company) was discovered in May 2016, along with résumés linking the project to Volition.[7] Further speculation arose from a 2013 Polygon interview with Volition's Scott Phillips, referring to Saints Row players as "agent[s] of mayhem".[8] The game was formally announced on June 6, 2016 with a cinematic announcement trailer released exclusively via IGN.[9]
