"Love Make the World Go Round"
Song

"Love Make The World Go Round" is a song recorded by Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda as a tribute to those who lost their lives during the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting. It was released as a charity single on July 8, 2016, by Epic Records.

All proceeds from each sale of the track will be donated to Hispanic Federation for the Somos Orlando Fund, which will address the long-term needs for mental health services that are culturally competent and bilingual.

Background

A day after the worst mass shooting in U.S. history—where 49 people were killed at Latin night at a gay bar in Orlando—Miranda used his acceptance speech at the Tony Awards to pay tribute to the victims, saying, "Remember that hope and love last forever." In July 4, 2016 Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda posted photos and videos of them working and recording the song in their social media accounts. It was reported that they are working on a song that will benefit the family and survivors of the Orlando nightclub shooting. Lopez, who admitted on stalking the Hamilton creator, said that she convinced Miranda to collaborate with her despite their busy schedules. During their interview on Today show, Lopez stated that "The world really needs the message of love being the answer. That's what really matters; that's what really makes the world go 'round, nothing else. Hate, anger, it's not gonna get us anywhere."

According to Billboard: The track's proceeds will go toward the Hispanic Federation's Proyecto Somos Orlando initiative, which "will address the long-term needs for mental health services that are culturally competent and bilingual. Proyecto will enable care to be delivered to those affected directly in the communities in which they live. Beyond emergency assistance, they will be provided with case management, crisis intervention and mental health services, among other needs."

Critical Reaction

Robbie Daw of Idolator reviewed the song and stated that the song is "Worldly, inspiring and not about “the club.” “Love Make The World Go Round” is a pretty simple pop track with an instantly catchy groove, aimed at raising money for a charity benefiting those affected by last month’s shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub. Snippets of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony acceptance sonnet are employed in such a way that the addition doesn’t feel forced. Plus, Lopez’s vocals are top notch here." Rachel Sonis of Idolator also added that "With its infectious, sun-kissed melody and uplifting lyrics of love and unity, this song makes light out of such a tragic time in human history. It’s simple, hopeful and, ultimately, something we all desperately need right now."
