Problems

Help with Source Check for FAC
Hello, I apologize for the intrusion. I have noticed that you ran a source check for Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Millipede/archive1 recently, and I was wondering if you could possibly run one for my nomination as well (Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Did You Hear What Happened to Charlotte King?/archive1). I would be more than happy to help with any other article/nomination if you do the source check. I understand however if you would not like to if you are either too busy or not interested. Thank you in advance either way. Aoba47 (talk) 19:11, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hello @Aoba47:, if noone beats me to it, I'll try to have a look later or (more likely) tomorrow. If you haven't done so already, it might be a good idea to ask 1-2 more interested editors for a content review or post a reminder on the talkpages of interested projects. As long as you phrase such requests neutrally, there is nothing wrong with asking for additional reviews. Officially there is no fix number of course and every nomination is different, but 3 supports with some in-depth responses is generally a good number to aim for. GermanJoe (talk) 13:00, 9 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for the advice, and I will definitely follow it. I apologize for the inconvenience. I always feel really awkward when asking people for help. I greatly appreciate your support, and please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you to return the favor. Aoba47 (talk) 15:58, 9 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hello @Aoba47:, regarding your question about a full review (I answer here, as I don't want to distract your nomination's page with too much of my own chatter): I rarely do full content reviews as I am not a native English speaker. While I am reasonably sure about everyday conversations, the finer points of complex English grammar and good prose often elude me - so I focus on "technical" image and source reviews. Aside from that, I know next to nothing about the series and episode in question. It would be better if a native speaker interested in the topic would do a more qualified full review. Best regards. GermanJoe (talk) 10:37, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
- No worries, I completely understand. Thank you for your help again! Aoba47 (talk) 15:55, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
Media check on FAC
Hey GermanJoe, sorry for constantly interrupting you, but can you do another media check on Ride the Lightning? I've nominated it again for FA, and apart from the new picture in the background section, there's nothing new regarding audio files and other images. Here's the FAC and hope you can do the check. Have a nice day.--Retrohead (talk) 10:27, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Retrohead: And done :) - good luck with your nomination. GermanJoe (talk) 10:45, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Problems
- Last week Tech News announced you will get a notification when you mention yourself the same way as if someone else had mentioned you. This caused some problems and will happen later instead. [11]
- Creating and editing links to sections on other pages on the wiki now works again in the visual editor. [12]
- For some users, cross-wiki notifications haven't been working properly. The count has been wrong when only cross-wiki notifications were present. The cross-wiki bundle has been showing only the names of wikis and not the actual notifications. This will be fixed soon. [13][14]
Changes this week
- The login session when you choose "Keep me logged in" will now last a year. Previously it was 30 days. This will happen on August 16. [15]
- Some abuse filters will have to be updated during the week. This is because a bug will be fixed. [16]
- In compact language links, two new kinds of languages will be shown in the shorter language list: Languages that are used in the article's text, and languages where the article has a badge like "featured article" or "good article". [17][18]
- The visual editor will be available by default for logged-out editors on Wikipedias that use the Arabic script. It is already default for logged-in editors. [19]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from August 16. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from August 17. It will be on all wikis from August 18 (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on August 16 at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Starting the week of August 22 there will be three software deployment windows. They will be at 13:00, 18:00, and 23:00 UTC. This is to have more times when software of the wikis can be updated and make it easier for developers in different parts of the world. [20]

Recent changes
- The ORES review tool is now available on Special:Contributions as a beta feature. It can make it easier to find contributions that are probably damaging the wikis. The ORES review tool is available on Wikidata and Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish and Russian Wikipedia. [21]
- The
norm
andccnorm
functions have been updated to make it easier to write abuse filters. This also affects the TitleBlacklist extension. You don't have to transform "I" and "L" to "1", "O" to "0" and "S" to "5" anymore. [22] - The old pageview data in the "pagecounts-raw" and "pagecounts-all-sites" files is no longer being updated. You can find the new pageview data here. This happened on August 5. [23]
Problems
- Some big image files could not be thumbnailed. This has now been fixed. [24]
- When you moved a page over a redirect it would delete the redirect without saving it in the logs. This has now been fixed. [25]
Changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 23 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 24 August. It will be on all wikis from 25 August (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 23 August at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Sometimes when you mention another user they don't get a notification. You will be able to get a notification when you successfully sent out a mention to someone or be told if they did not get a notification. This will be opt-in. You can test this on the test wiki. [26][27]
- How you add text after an edit conflict might work in a different way in the future. You can test the prototype. [28]

Peer Review - GoT
Hi GermanJoe, I hope everything is fine. I was wondering if you have the time.. could you take up(look at/review) the "Peer review" for Battle of the Bastards(Season 6, Episode 9 of Game of Thrones ("Spoiler alert if you have not seen the series")). I am trying to get this to a "Featured Artice".. (It has already been passed for "Good Article") and I need some one to review and tell me what to fix/do to make that happen.(Wikipedia:Peer review/Battle of the Bastards/archive1) AffeL (talk) 20:13, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hello @AffeL:, although series articles aren't my strong suit, I have added a few - hopefully helpful - comments. GermanJoe (talk) 13:19, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Source review for The Ecstatic?
Hi. I noticed your name at the FAC talk page's source review requests section and would like to ask if you could do one for my FA nomination of The Ecstatic. Dan56 (talk) 16:30, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
- Done mostly OK, just 1 open point, and a piece of opinion not affecting the review itself. GermanJoe (talk) 10:27, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

External_link_removed in Continent Page
Hello Joe,
Hope You are doing well,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Continent#External_link_removed
You have removed my link from "external links" from continent page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent
Reasons you have mentioned are:
- 1 - Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a featured article.
- 11 - Blogs, personal web pages and most fansites (negative ones included), except those written by a recognized authority. (This exception for blogs, etc., controlled by recognized authorities is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities who are individuals always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for people.)
Possibly #2 - Any site that misleads the reader by use of factually inaccurate material or unverifiable research, except to a limited extent in articles about the viewpoints that the site is presenting.
- 1 Explanation - The variety and metrics provided in our page is unique, you will not find such information at one place. Like GDP of continents etc.
- 11 Explanation - This is not a blog, not a personal web page, and nor a fansite. We are new on internet but our aim is to provide current, credible and consistent information to users.
- 2 Explanation - As i have already explained that our information is current, credible and consistent. We are not misleading the users and all the factual data and figures we are providing is updated and accurate.
Actually i have not placed the link again, it was Wikipedia Editor "VarunFEB2003" who had placed my link over there (in External Links).
Hope you will find explanation satisfactory and will place my link there again. Please place my link there and it is my job to regulate and update the content on regular basis and i will do it on immediate basis.
Have a nice day !!!
Nitsnitz (talk) 16:26, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hello @Nitsnitz:, if you disagree with the deletion, please add to the discussion at Talk:Continent to allow other editors to join in as well. The result of such disputed questions is based on consensus among all interested editors, not on my (or your) single opinion. Thus a user talkpage is not the best place to discuss this. Several other editors have already expressed agreement to remove the link though (by removing it themselves or posting to the help desk thread). Please add any further arguments to the opened thread at Talk:Continent (it's not necessary to quote all guideline points again, as most regular editors know about these restrictions for external links). Thank you. GermanJoe (talk) 17:00, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
