• The RevisionSlider beta feature can now be tested on mediawiki.org, German Wikipedia, Arabic Wikipedia and Hebrew Wikipedia.

Problems

• Renamed users on some wikis were not connected to their account on other wikis between 20 July and 21 July. This has been fixed. [2]

Recent changes

• In notifications, the icon for Notices has been changed from a speech-bubble icon () to a tray icon () for consistency. The Alerts icon has been redesigned too. The colors have been changed for accessibility. [3]

Problems

• If you use the wikEd gadget, changes you made were not kept when you switched from the wikitext editor to the visual editor while you were editing. This has now been fixed. [4]

Changes this week

• Wikimedia search will now ignore question marks at the end of the sentences or words you use when you search. Until now the question mark was just a wildcard. [5]
• On Commons, UploadWizard will now be available on mobile, rather than just the old upload form. This should reduce the workload for the community in reviewing images. [6]
• When you edit with the visual editor a puzzle symbol tells you there is an invisible template in the article. It will now mention the name of the template. [7]
• The button to read something in another language will move for mobile users. This will happen on 9 August. [8]
• When someone mentions you and links to your user page you get a notification. You will now get a notification when you mention yourself this way. [9]
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 August. It will be on all wikis from 11 August (calendar).
• A message on Notifications panel will invite users to try Special:Notifications page. [10]

Help with Source Check for FAC

Hello, I apologize for the intrusion. I have noticed that you ran a source check for Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Millipede/archive1 recently, and I was wondering if you could possibly run one for my nomination as well (Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Did You Hear What Happened to Charlotte King?/archive1). I would be more than happy to help with any other article/nomination if you do the source check. I understand however if you would not like to if you are either too busy or not interested. Hello @Aoba47:, if noone beats me to it, I'll try to have a look later or (more likely) tomorrow. If you haven't done so already, it might be a good idea to ask 1-2 more interested editors for a content review or post a reminder on the talkpages of interested projects. As long as you phrase such requests neutrally, there is nothing wrong with asking for additional reviews. Officially there is no fix number of course and every nomination is different, but 3 supports with some in-depth responses is generally a good number to aim for. Hello @Aoba47:, regarding your question about a full review (I answer here, as I don't want to distract your nomination's page with too much of my own chatter): I rarely do full content reviews as I am not a native English speaker. While I am reasonably sure about everyday conversations, the finer points of complex English grammar and good prose often elude me - so I focus on "technical" image and source reviews. Aside from that, I know next to nothing about the series and episode in question. It would be better if a native speaker interested in the topic would do a more qualified full review. Best regards. Problems

• Last week Tech News announced you will get a notification when you mention yourself the same way as if someone else had mentioned you. This caused some problems and will happen later instead. [11]
• Creating and editing links to sections on other pages on the wiki now works again in the visual editor. [12]
• For some users, cross-wiki notifications haven't been working properly. The count has been wrong when only cross-wiki notifications were present. The cross-wiki bundle has been showing only the names of wikis and not the actual notifications. This will be fixed soon. [13][14]

Changes this week

• The login session when you choose "Keep me logged in" will now last a year. Previously it was 30 days. This will happen on August 16. [15]
• Some abuse filters will have to be updated during the week. This is because a bug will be fixed. [16]
• In compact language links, two new kinds of languages will be shown in the shorter language list: Languages that are used in the article's text, and languages where the article has a badge like "featured article" or "good article". [17][18]
• The visual editor will be available by default for logged-out editors on Wikipedias that use the Arabic script. It is already default for logged-in editors. [19]
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from August 16. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from August 17. It will be on all wikis from August 18 (calendar).

Recent changes

• The ORES review tool is now available on Special:Contributions as a beta feature. It can make it easier to find contributions that are probably damaging the wikis. The ORES review tool is available on Wikidata and Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish and Russian Wikipedia. [21]
• The norm and ccnorm functions have been updated to make it easier to write abuse filters. This also affects the TitleBlacklist extension. You don't have to transform "I" and "L" to "1", "O" to "0" and "S" to "5" anymore. [22]
• The old pageview data in the "pagecounts-raw" and "pagecounts-all-sites" files is no longer being updated. You can find the new pageview data here. This happened on August 5. [23]

Problems

• Some big image files could not be thumbnailed. This has now been fixed. [24]
• When you moved a page over a redirect it would delete the redirect without saving it in the logs. This has now been fixed. [25]

• How you add text after an edit conflict might work in a different way in the future. You can test the prototype. [28]

Peer Review - GoT

Hi GermanJoe, I hope everything is fine. I was wondering if you have the time.. could you take up(look at/review) the "Peer review" for Battle of the Bastards(Season 6, Episode 9 of Game of Thrones ("Spoiler alert if you have not seen the series")). I am trying to get this to a "Featured Artice".. • Wikimedia mobile sites now don't load images if the user doesn't see them. This is to save mobile data and make the pages load faster. [29]
• When you edit a table with the visual editor, pressing Tab in the last cell of a row will take you to the first cell in the next row. Pressing Shift and Tab in the first cell of a row will take you to the last cell in the previous row. [30]

• The name of the "Save page" button will change. The button will say "Publish page" when you create a new page. It will say "Publish changes" when you change an existing page. [31][32]

• Word-level diffs now work in longer paragraphs. [33]
• Interactive maps now have a frame by default. This is to make them look like other multimedia objects. This affects all Wikivoyages, the Catalan, Hebrew, Macedonian Wikipedias and Meta. [34]
• When you preview the MediaWiki:Captcha-ip-whitelist page it will show a validation output of the listed IP addresses instead of the list of addresses only. This can help you to identify if your whitelist rules will work or not. [35]

External_link_removed in Continent Page

You have removed my link from "external links" from continent page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent

Reasons you have mentioned are:

1. 1 - Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a featured article.
2. 11 - Blogs, personal web pages and most fansites (negative ones included), except those written by a recognized authority. (This exception for blogs, etc., controlled by recognized authorities is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities who are individuals always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for people.)

Possibly #2 - Any site that misleads the reader by use of factually inaccurate material or unverifiable research, except to a limited extent in articles about the viewpoints that the site is presenting.

1. 1 Explanation - The variety and metrics provided in our page is unique, you will not find such information at one place. Like GDP of continents etc.
2. 11 Explanation - This is not a blog, not a personal web page, and nor a fansite. We are new on internet but our aim is to provide current, credible and consistent information to users.
3. 2 Explanation - As i have already explained that our information is current, credible and consistent. We are not misleading the users and all the factual data and figures we are providing is updated and accurate.

Actually i have not placed the link again, it was Wikipedia Editor "VarunFEB2003" who had placed my link over there (in External Links).

Hope you will find explanation satisfactory and will place my link there again. Please place my link there and it is my job to regulate and update the content on regular basis and i will do it on immediate basis.

Hello @Nitsnitz:, if you disagree with the deletion, please add to the discussion at Talk:Continent to allow other editors to join in as well. The result of such disputed questions is based on consensus among all interested editors, not on my (or your) single opinion. Thus a user talkpage is not the best place to discuss this. Several other editors have already expressed agreement to remove the link though (by removing it themselves or posting to the help desk thread). Please add any further arguments to the opened thread at Talk:Continent (it's not necessary to quote all guideline points again, as most regular editors know about these restrictions for external links).
