He was the executive producer of the Kurt Russell film Breakdown which opened at number one at the box office.[3] Fernandez worked as a production executive for Dino De Laurentiis[4] and Roger Corman.[5] His book WINNING ESSAYS was published by Berkley/G.P. Putnam’s Sons.[6]

Fernandez is a member of the Writer's Guild of America and was on the WGA Negotiating Committee in 2011[7] and 2014.[8] He has a featured interview in the documentary Pencils Down: The 100 days of the Writers Guild Strike.[9]
