Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Football Club (also Jeonbuk FC, 전북축구클럽) are a professional football club based in Jeonju, North Jeolla province, South Korea. They have become the winner of the AFC Champions League (3-2 aggregate win against Al-Karama on November 8, 2006) and the first club from East Asia to so since the AFC Champions League was launched in its current format in 2003. Jeonbuk FC are going to the FIFA Club World Cup in December 2006.

Jeonbuk's best domestic performances have often been reserved for the Korean FA Cup and they remain the only club to have won the competition on more than one occasion (2000, 2003, 2005). The club's color is green that is also the color of Jeonbuk Province. Jeonbuk have been playing at Jeonju Worldcup Stadium (nickname-Jeonju castle) since 2002, capacity 42,477, in the city of Jeonju.

History

Jeonbuk FC were founded in January 1993, the original name was Wansan FC. O Hyung-Kun is the founder and it was the first club that used the home's name for the club's in KPFL(The Korean Professional Football League) and Wansan FC tried to introduce the new football club system. (The other clubs started out as company-sponsored football teams for public reltions and used their sponsored company's name until 1996)

However, O Hyung-Kun was not able to raise enough funds and Wansan FC went into bankruptcy before joining the Korean League. Many people were eager to keep their club and Bobae Ltd., a local alcohol manufacturer, fortunately gave financial support. Finally, the club joined the Korean League in 1994 after changing the name to Jeonbuk Buffalo FC. The team began getting worse in finace and play even though people tried to support their club. Jeonbuk Buffalo was entrusted to the KPFL and Hyundai Motors took over Jeonbuk FC on December 12, 1994.

Since 1993, Jeonbuk haven't seriously challenged for the Korean League title, often languishing in mid-table. After Choi Gang-hee was appointed manager in July 2005, he made Jeonbuk the winner of the Korean FA Cup 2005. In 2006, Jeonbuk finished a disappointing eleventh in the Korean League. The season had a surprising ending, however, as Jeonbuk won their first AFC Champions Cup final in Homs, Syria. They defeated the champions of Japan and China. Gamba Osaka and Dalian Shide in the toughest section. And they also beat Ulsan Horangi the champion of Korea in the semi-final and Al-Karama the champion of Syria in the final.

Now they have an opportunity to join the FIFA Club World Cup in December as AFC Champions. Jeonbuk are going to meet Club America in Tokyo, Japan (11 December, 19:20); the winner will meetFC Barcelona in semi-final ([[14 December, 19:20, Yokohama).
