:: Notice the phrase "before independence". By the way, on that same note, some will argue Bengal has not been independent since the fall of Nawab [[Siraj ud-Daulah]] since Bangladesh isn't really Bengal and West Bengal, quite clearly, isn't Bengal either. OK, now more seriously, I think articles that cover Bengal in general shouldn't be bumped on to either India or Bangladesh, since then we start having the tug-of-war situation. So, here's what should be logical:
:: Only about Bangladesh? - WP Bangladesh
:: Only about West Bengal? - WP WestBengal
:: Covers all of Bengal? - WP Bengal and neither WestBengal nor Bangladesh
:: Makes sense? :) [[User:Urnonav|urnonav]] 09:02, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Transliteration scheme

Proposals have been made at the to do list project page. Please check and comment. -- Urnonav 09:06, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Timely Project. I will help any way I can. I have added a number of stubs ot the Bangla wikipedia recently and am not entirely sure about some of the transliterations. --Zaheen 01:25, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Transliteration standards

It has become an increasingly important issue to determine:

  • where to provide transliteration for words
  • which words to tranliterate
  • how to make it easier for a user to understand and use these transliterations wisely
  • how often to transliterate

In order to lay out definite standards, a discussion has been started on the to do page. Please feel free to contribute.

WikiProject: Bangla

Hi,

Some users are interested in a WikiProject for Bangla. I am guessing that could most likely be a subproject under the Bengal project as opposed to being on its own. Please get in touch with User: Loom91 for more info on this. Cheers, --urnonav 21:53, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bengali script needed for articles

they are listed here: Wikipedia_talk:Notice_board_for_India-related_topics#Indic_name_needed--D-Boy 20:53, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A good source

Just wanted to point out Banglapedia as a great source for Bengal related articles. Bakaman Bakatalk 02:45, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Project banner

I notice you are using a seperate project banner for talk page headers. Is it possible for you to use {{WP India}} so that we have one unified template for all child projects under India project? I have added bengal=yes to the project banner that can used as, {{WP India|bengal=yes}}. Please comment. - Ganeshk (talk) 05:52, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See Talk:West Bengal for an example. - Ganeshk (talk) 06:02, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that WP Bengal is also under WP Bangladesh, and including it in the WP India header might leave us with two separate project headers being applied to such topics, one from WP India, another from WP Bangladesh. So, it may be better to have a separate header for the WP Bengal project. --Ragib 06:19, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I figured out that the confusion was caused by WP:Bengal being placed under WP:India, where it should have been WP:West Bengal ... I have created the Wikipedia:WikiProject West Bengal ... you might change the tags at the talk pages accordingly. Thanks. --Ragib 06:27, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ragib, Thanks for the clarification. I have tagged the projects accordingly. - Ganeshk (talk) 06:46, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. I think it should go under the WP India banner. Before independence bengal was apart of undivided India. I don't see how a separate header is beneficial. it just wastes more space.--D-Boy 07:08, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Notice the phrase "before independence". By the way, on that same note, some will argue Bengal has not been independent since the fall of Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah since Bangladesh isn't really Bengal and West Bengal, quite clearly, isn't Bengal either. OK, now more seriously, I think articles that cover Bengal in general shouldn't be bumped on to either India or Bangladesh, since then we start having the tug-of-war situation. So, here's what should be logical:
Only about Bangladesh? - WP Bangladesh
Only about West Bengal? - WP WestBengal
Covers all of Bengal? - WP Bengal and neither WestBengal nor Bangladesh
Makes sense? :) urnonav 09:02, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Brits in Bengal

The history of the Brits in Bengal seems to be undercovered, especially high officials and governors etc etc. I've set up an article (based on this and also an article on the first governor of them all, William Hedges. Any help from people with access to resources - history books and suchlike - would be highly appreciated. -- Peripatetic 21:11, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 15:13, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Racist remarks against Bengalis

Nomoshkaar. I would like to bring to your attention racist comments made against Bengali people by User:Street Scholar in Talk:Martial Race. The diff is here. He has been known to make similar derogatory remarks against Hindus, Jews and several other minority groups. he has also been blocked numerous times for making sexist attacks on lady wikipedians. I suggest that you look into this matter.Hkelkar 21:55, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
He's kind of crazy.--D-Boy 07:06, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
