self-block request
* For convenience in case of any need for future reference I am copying the following message which you posted on my talk page to here. JBW (talk) 21:04, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi, I've seen you on the list of self-blocking admin. I'm requesting an indefinitely block as I intend to stop editing after being blocked. Thank You. Dfdooger (talk) 07:15, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
: Normally I don't give a self-requested block without first checking with the editor in question exactly what conditions she or he wants attached to the block. On this occasion, however, because I have recently been inactive on Wikipedia you have already had to wait four days for me to respond, and further edits you have made to my talk page have made it clear that you still want the block. Because of that I have decided to temporarily block your account pending clarification of one point, namely whether you wish to keep open the option of returning at some time in the future. If you do wish to keep that option open, please say so, and give a minimum time for which you want the block to remain in place before you may exercise the option. If, for example, you say one year, then I shall refuse any request to unblock you within a year of now, and I shall also request that no other administrator accept an unblock request from you within that time. Alternatively, you may choose to say that you do not wish to have the option of ever returning. If you say that then I will never unblock you, no matter how much you plead with me, I will request that other administrators never unblock you, and if I find that you are editing from another account I shall block that one too. Therefore, if you are considering taking that option, think very carefully before committing yourself to it.
: I would normally require an answer to that question before blocking, but, as I said above, I am making a temporary exception because of the time you have already waited. Please answer within 72 hours of the time of this message, i.e. by 21:04, Saturday 11 April 2020. If you don't answer by then, I shall feel free to remove the block as soon after that as is convenient for me. That is because I am unwilling to be responsible for a self-requested block for which the editor in question can later claim that I am unilaterally imposing a block different from the one she or he wanted. (If you have any other conditions you wish to have attached to the block then also tell me that within 72 hours of now, and I shall either agree to those conditions or, if I am not willing to accept them, remove the block. Any request to add or change conditions after that will be declined.) JBW (talk) 21:04, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Im willing to be blocked indefinitely as I have literally no interest in editing. Due to many new video games releasing, im rather playing with my friends that why. Thank you and farewell. Stay safe on then virus. Dfdooger (talk) 22:44, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
: Yes, I understand that you are willing to be blocked indefinitely, and you are blocked indefinitely. The point at issue, though, is what should happen if at some future time you change your mind. No doubt at present you think that will never happen, but other people have thought that and then changed your mind. How can you tell how you will feel in 2 years' time, or 5 years' time, or 10 years' time? Presumably the reason for requesting a block, rather than just stopping editing, is that you think if you are not blocked you will be tempted to come back, and you don't want help in resisting that temptation. So, suppose that you are tempted to come back tomorrow. If all you have to do is say "please unblock me, as I want to edit again", then what was the point of the block? Nothing, as it didn't stop you from coming back as soon as you were tempted. So a self-requested block is totally pointless unless you want an administrator to refuse any request to unblock. However, in five years' time, when you are five years older than you are now, and very likely a quite different person, you may feel very different, and really decide you want to come back and edit. Would it then be reasonable to be told "No, when you were younger you said you never wanted to be allowed to edit again, and so we are going to hold you to that for the rest of your life"? The question is where do we draw the line? I am not willing to make that decision: you must do so. I am not willing to let the block stand indefinitely unless you give a clear answer to this question: "If at some future time you decide to come back, should I allow you to do so, or should I refuse?" I suggest that a good answer would be "Hold me to it for at least 6 months, and after that allow me to decide whether to ever come back". However, that is for you to decide, not me. There is now a little over 24 hours left to the deadline I set for an answer to my question.
: One thing that has come out of this is that I will never again make an exception to my principle that I don't make self-requested blocks until after I have had an unequivocal statement as to what the terms of the block should be. Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for engaging in personal attacks (after warning). Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: .

I'm not gonna stay longer, pls block me with no expiration set so there will be no personal attacks edits that you are claiming. Also I've seen you one of the very active admin, care to revert IP edit on MS Zaandam.

Calling me a "fool" is something I take exception to. Thanks, I've added that article to my watchlist. El_C 04:48, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome

Hello Dfdooger and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your contributions, such as your recent editing history at Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
