Church of Ireland Protestants

There are a number of people who would argue that Anglican denominations are not Protestant. There are many others who believe that the Church of Ireland is Roman Catholic. However, I am not going to change it back. If confusion exists we can't fix it everywhere. Dabbler 13:54, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The simple fact, that I am making, is that compounding "Church of Ireland" with "Protestant" or "Roman Catholic" does not read correct - particularily when that is not what the article is discussing. I just want to keep the article to the point. Djegan 14:01, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Belfast Photo

Why did you remove my photograph of Belfast?

DCU's Location

The user Gnevin believes that DCU is in Whitehall and has changed the main Dublin City University article to reflect this view, but I believe that it is in Glasnevin.

I thought you would be able to help clarify the situation since you are a former DCU student.

For further information see the talk page for the Northside (Dublin) article.

Its a good question. I have always assumed Glasnevin, but that area of Dublin is very fuzzy. Looking at correspondence from the university its address is stated as simply "Dublin City University, Dublin 9, Ireland". Indeed checking Dublin City and District Street Guide, Third Edition, Ordnance Survey Ireland the university is much nearer, if not in, Whitehall rathern than Glasnevin. Removal of Link to Oireacthas Members database

Why have you removed this link.

Oireachtas members' database It is an official government link and much of the article's information is transcribed from it. It is a definitive source as presumably it is maintained by non-amateurs. Because its just a link to a website, a form of link spam. By all means cite specific external pages (relevent to content) but a whole website? We might as well add www.rte.ie or www.unison.ie to every Irish article. The said link would be appropriate to Oireachtas but not the article of every member, past and present, of same.

Historical reference to City of Derry/Londonderry

I am trying to obtain a non-POV neutral discussion over what terminology to use for this or whether the IMOS as it stands should indeed cover this. Counties of Ireland

Made some changes to Counties of Ireland to update it to 29 for the RoI. However some of the text talks of 34 administrative counties - I think that figure is arrived at by taking the 5 city councils into account aswell. Could do with improvement, I think. Also need to find a map reflecting the 29 counties rather than awkward split I've done with the map key. Bastun 19:11, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Founding document

That was myself editing anonymously. No subterfuge intended just wasn't bothered to log in for just a couple of minor edits. I was reverting what I took to be anonymous, ill-considered nit-picking. The original wording in this series of articles was more about establishing the topic as the politics of the Republic of Ireland rather than defining constitution (which would be pretty redundant). Though I suspect that is probably the actual reason why it was changed. Some seem to be on a mission to delete the term Republic of Ireland where-ever they see it. It's fair enough to have that preference but a user should have something more substantial to contribute to the 'pedia than simply going about making tiny edits here and there to conform things to their own stylistic or ideological preferences, and second-guessing every one of the tiny subjective choices that real contributors (like you and me) allow themselves when writing actual new material. I'm probably being overly proprietorial about these articles. Sorry if this seems grouchy, been a long day, etc.

Certainly I see the benifit of linking to the Republic of Ireland. My way of looking at the issue was another anon on an errant to add information for the sake of editing, with little substance. I did not realise it was you, with a larger plan. I have only reverted one of you edits anyway so if you want to continue, by all means. NI county pop estimates

Thanks for your comment: the question of course is whose estimates, and where can we find a citation. I spent a good while nosing around the net looking for them, but no joy. It appears that the Fermanagh figure is the population for the local government district rounded off and the Tyrone figure is the total for four districts. But how the others were arrived at (particularly Armagh and Down, parts of which are subsumed in Belfast) is anyone's guess. Which is the problem. The other problem is that in as far as they continue to have a statutory existence, there are six counties and two county boroughs: if there were figures compiled they would refer to these. For the record, you are not answering my questions. I have explained why I moved the section that I did. The reason you gave originally was it was turning the page "into a perpetual vote". Since the section in question had nothing to do with voting, I reasonably thought you simply made a mistake. To be clear, I closed the only poll open (a separate section). Then I moved the section again, explaining why. There is talk of archiving the entire page, and I just want to preserve a list of facts, compiled today, from being archived. You have not explained why are opposed to this, and simply are reverting me. Further, you continue to insist that I am pretending I "can solve factual issues with polls", which I've never claimed, and has nothing to do with this. If you want to change the title of an article (and thus the location) click on the "move" button at the top of the page when logged in and follow the instructions. As long as you have sufficent rights the page will move to the new title, otherwise you will have to submitt a move request, see WP:MOVE. Its often a good idea on the talk page to invite comments before moving yourself (maybe leave a day or two to see if anyone would not be happy at the move and discuss furthur if need be as to the ideal title). See also WP:REDIRECTS.
